White Belt (1/10)

  1. http://www.taekkyon.de/html/en/tn_general.html heres another link i fpund on taekkyon
  2. I enjoyed the pictures...It's good to know that this art still survives
  3. Very, interesting article : )
  4. yup ground fighting i think is very important...the key thing that i tried to convey in the tkd vs mt fight was the tkd guy only attacked high as the mt guy staggered backwards...this if the person is caught off guard and off balance, but kicking high will also mean you will be off guard an off balance thus there is a high probablility you will have to eventually go to the ground
  5. I have to agree that high kicks are good to learn if learned correctly. For example I saw a tkd fighter vs a mt fighter and the tkd fighter attacked with punches and low kicks until the mt fighter began to fall back, which than the tkd fighter started to kicking to his head, because his punches managed to get the mt fighter off balance enough that it allowed him to attack. Watching this I think was a good example of how and when kicking to the head may be good. The tkd fighter never kicked high when the mt fighter was close, but rather used punches until he found a way for the fighter to become off balance...i think im beginning to ramble lol
  6. I think it's because WTF TKD i.e. olympic style taekwondo is meant for sport. I saw school in korea training and they had a session, which they were punhcing, elbowing, and backfisting at each other. Funny thing is I hear people say this martia art and that martial art, but since I've seen taekwondo fighters in asia be successful against MT fighters I've come to the conclusion that it ultimately comes down to how you train and what techniques you emphasize.
  7. Even though it is a myth, If a person is of an upper level belt, which is normally green or above. If he or she gets into a conflict; especially if the person could have walked away. In many states you can than be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but their is no registration type deal. The closest thing to registering when you become a black belt is that many organizations list your black belt number and such. Kukkiwon does this.
  8. I did some more research and found out that it is still taught, but it is not as in large quantities as some of the other martial arts. They say that they had nothing to do with Taekwondo and that much of the art was lost. The point of the Taekkyon is to get your opponent off balance. They do not agree with the use of padding like in taekwondo, because it does not give a realistic feel..at least thats what I've read
  9. I've seen tkd fighters beat MT fighters before, but interms as TKD being good for fighting I'd say no. I kinda thing MT is also overatted. My list in not particular order has to be. 1. BJJ 2. Hwarangdo 3. Savate 4. Wrestling 5. Hapkido 6. WC 7. MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) 8. Aikido 9. Shotokhan 10. Boxing (I think it has great foot work).
  10. I wanted to know if Hwarangdo is a good martial art for self-defense, because I don't know much about it?
  11. I was wondering if anyone knew what Taekkyon is, because I was thinking about learning it? If anyone knows any video clips of Taekkyon that would be great
