  1. Well, I know Ichikyu, Nikyu, Pinan Shodan, and Naihanchi Shodan. Wow, a yellow belt knowing a green belt kata.... Hm, interesting. I would know Sankyu, but that kata class wasn't long enough, so I only know a third of it.
  2. I like to play video games a lot in my spare time. I love band, my life revolves around it. I am sad to say, I love it more than the MA, but oh well. I also do a lot of creative writing and drawing.
  3. Thinking... karate-kid do. You learn it by watching the Karate Kid movies over and over and over...
  4. LMAO! Dude, those are awesome!
  5. Ugh... I'd rather not think about that... So far, I've managed to avoid grappling with the teenage boy in our dojo, and I'd like to keep it that way.
  6. Northwestern Ohio.
  7. Hmm... I haven't been in MA long enough to have an embarassing story but I have one. I got partnered with my boyfriend for the first time, so I was nervous. We were supposed to do a double backfist, 3/4 punch to the stomach, and then nail them on the knee-cap. Of course, I'm still freaked out of my wits because it's my first month in the adult class, I'm not used to this kind of stuff. Well... once I kind missed his knee-cap... I think I hurt his pride.
  8. I do not normally have problem training with guys. The only one I have a problem with is my boyfriend, and I always lose my focus around him. We partner occasionally, but I'm running to Kieran for now so I can work on my control. I have practice close quarters with him, it was shameful how many times I cracked up (what can I say? In a few hours, we were going to go on a band trip and sit in the same seat!) There are only about three women in the advanced class, so I am rather used to training with guys. I've trained with guys all my life, whether it be T-ball or cross country (I just realized today the brown belt in our dojo is probably related to one of the boys I ran CC with... Now THAT'S strange to me). My problem is not being string enough, compared to being afraid to hurt people. I know they can take it, I have problems getting up the power.
  9. I bowed at a roller coaster once I got off, saluting the bravery of the people at the top.
  10. Hmm... Lesse... "Oh, there's the brown belt pervert" "Why am I staring at the back of green-belt-boy's head again?", "how the heck does Sensei do that?!" , "I'm hungry" , "I wanna talk to green-belt-boy.. BAD ATALANTA! *mentally slaps self*" , "I have to go to the bathroom", and finally "Man, it's hot in here..."
  11. When you're washing windows you use Wax on Wax off...
  12. I yi yi... that was funny.
  13. To give you an idea of how happy we were, we really did come jumping and screaming out of the dojo (yes, I know. really undignified.) All three of us love karate, but band... it demanded we be there so much. Participating in the normal classes would have been out of the question due to scheduling conflicts. Wow, three full months of Aikido... I can't wait. We shall all be white belts and none of us should rank over the other (this comes from the lowest ranking of the three, you would think I cared more). Needless to say, I am rather pleased with this compromise. *does disco dance* Thanx for your time.
  14. Well... In our dojo, there are only about three of us girls in the adult class. Kieran, another lady, and me. We always spar the men. The first person I sparred was a guy (even though he was half my size... It was my first month and I still didn't have my Gi by that point). Last time I sparred in the adult class was something else for me. My mind couldn't grasp the concept of getting off-line. In fact, I think the one who had the least amount of mercy on me was Green-belt-boy (my friend/boyfriend.). He left a few brusies. Grrr... Thanks a lot, Blaise (the green belt).
  15. I am fifteen and I only started at the end of last year. I know in our style we don't have actual black belts until we turn eighteen, we would get junior black belts. Sensei said it was out of respect, I think. I really don't have anything to worry about, I'll probably only have my purple belt when I turn 18.
  16. Yes I remember when Kieran had to teach those midgets. I wasn't paying attention, I was either learning Nikyu kata (which I should have learned ages ago) or Penan Shodan. I know one of these days Sensei won't pair me up with someone to teach, so i might as well start reading your advice. But the Star Wars theme song complete with dance... Man, I wish the thought to watch him hit me. That would have been amusing.
  17. Congrats! I've only seen one green belt test, but you have my deep respect.
  18. I actually know what you are talking about. Our Sensei in Eugue-Ryu taught us about Kuji-in, "finger-cuts" that gave ninja their power. Eugue-Ryu is not exactly a wide-spread style and it's rather old fashioned, but our Sensei goes into that kind of stuff. It's not made up (well, it might be the movie version of the real thing). But we do a lot of combat training as well...
  19. I personally haven't failed (yellow belt test has to be impossible to fail). But not too long ago, a really cocky kid failed his Blue belt test. He has it now, but it really served him right. He's arrogant, just because he can now practice with the adults, he doesn't come to the kid's practices. Sorry, I'm in a bad mood with him presently.
  20. I haven't really gone through a "beating" yet... I suppose you could count the first time I sparred in our adult class. Let's just say I was WAY to used to sparring the little kids. My green belt friend thankfully didn't show me any mercy. Oh, the time I went to an all-styles tournament didn't go too well...
  21. Welcome to the forums. I'm new, too. Good luck with your training!
  22. That's the first time I heard that one...
  23. Do not tell Sensei that you want to practice lining up all night. We have this rule in our dojo where we have to line up in five seconds, and we normally don't make it (dang little kids...). Well, one time Sensei asked a young green belt if we wanted to line up all night. Dominic said yes. One word: yikes. Over a hundred push ups, 250 jumping jacks, running in place for ten minutes, fifty leg lifts... jam-packed into twenty minutes. I think that's the least amount of what we had to do. The other green belt (my friend) said that was rather mild for Sensei going crazy. It probably didn't help that when Sensei asked if it was cool to do this kind of stuff, the young green and purple belts said "yes." I'd have to say this was the most demon workout I've ever done. I've had it lucky, I think. It really felt good the five minutes after we were done. Just thought I'd share my story.
