  1. I do cross-country, which is definitly a great sport to get into. it isn't easy, an easy workout is running steady for an hour or more. however, it is excellent exercise and gives you lots and lots of endurance. not too great for building muscle, but it keeps me lean and fit. I would recommend this sport to anyone who needs excercise outside their MA classes. This sport is basically running, and lots of it. if you don't want to be on a team or don't have one accessible, just go for a run. i really like trails more than roads, its prettier and more fun.
  2. yeah, the bilang.com is really cool. i Really want to see some of those competitions, if this is what they look like offstage
  3. Well, it really depends on who you are. Rule of thumb is: hands are faster and more manueverable, but legs are more powerful. Personally, i have good upper body strength, being a guy and done wrestling, so i like using my hands more for blocking and strikes. however, i still use kicks, just i keep them lower so i can control them more. i like to use my hands to go for more vital places like necks and temples
  4. Well, it really depends what your looking for. if you want a workout, i think that TKD is a great choice for you. however, my view on it was that it was more sport-like than other martial art. If you want good self defense skills, then karate is a good choice. also, i have friends who did hapkido and really enjoyed it.
  5. well, it does have combat techniques and requires practice and skill, so i definitely think it would
  6. I would think you have three good options. one is to wait out of range until they get tired, which they probably will, stop their momentum by blocking a punch and landing a good blow with your own, and just walking away. The problem with the first is that it could take awhile. also, you could be in a corner and have no practical way to stay away. the second one is faster and the most aggressive, but you gotta be quick, or else your toast. the third is hopefully sef-explanitory
  7. in my dojang for TKD it is pretty random who spars w/ who. the parnters are usually selected by the master. it is usually determined by height. co-ed sparring really isn't a big deal
  8. i think that is a great idea. i usually spar formally in my gi, but my friends and i do mock fights in street clothes at school all the time. it is quite a bit different trying to kick in normal pants than in gi pants. its also a lot harder with a backpack on
  9. This is probably one of the funniest videos i have even seen. The pimp gets OWNED! http://media.ebaumsworld.com/index.php?e=karatechop.wmv
  10. Thats a pretty awesome way to end a fight, if you ask me. However, it is taking a HUGE gamble. if the guy had just gotten fed up and attacked, meditating is not exactly the best defensive position. Unless he was just pretending to meditate... hmmm...
  11. I know that you don't have to register as a lethal weapon if your a blackbelt, but consider this: if a black belt punches someone, is it considered assault, or assault with a lethal weapon?
