  1. Good posts guys, i just graduated from Highschool and ended my highschool wrestling career. I guess it all depends on your coach, my school was lucky to be led by a 2 time state champion, and an all american so we worked HARD. Wrestling is definitely going to help you with MA b/c imo it is one, and like many b4 have already said it will help with coordination, positioning, ground skill and takedown skill, and some of the moves are nearly submission. Before wrestling i thought it was just about grabbin each other and tossin each other around. Now its much more than that, and it can teach you alot about yourself when your in that 3rd period and it all comes down to who is tougher. Ive posted a wrestling video thread in the grappling arts section but ill repost the site here. http://www.sectioniiiwrestling.com/Video/Video.htm and heres the thread on it: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=20982
  2. Does anyone know where there could possibly be a video clip of Andy Souwer vs Buakaw?
  3. This will be a tournament of epic proportions!! Sounds familiar -.- But this will be a great movie and i cant wait to see it. The Guy from Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu hustle is Steven Chow.
  4. Was it a considerable advantage or can Buakaw beat him in the future?
  5. Rare clip from a 1986 lei tai fighting match http://www.jiayo.com/videos/86_leitai.mov
  6. Can someone elaborate on why the Chinese government doesnt want Shaolin to come back?
  7. Well wrestling is included
  8. Manabimasho1 wow thats a great story, has to be one of the worst feelings when your body wont respond to something that serious. Now to this discussion! I agree with Aodhan with the scientific look on it, but i also believe it has a great deal to do with the mind. First let me ask this question. When you are obstructed in you day to day or routine plans do you not instantly freak! Or at least get grumpy or cranky? Ex 1: Joe doesnt get his morning coffee, Benny doesnt get to play his pokemon like he does every day. For some of us here its not getting the satisfaction and benefits of a great MA class that really gets us ticked. I think its a great habit to be bothered when we dont get to do something as healthy as training when we are so used to it. If you believe you should keep doing it, your mind will want to keep doing it.
  9. Well use that mind setting to drive you further in your training. "You can do almost anything if you put your mind to it."
  10. Nicely done Scottnshelly, very nice.
  11. It is almost garaunteed that almost every MA dojo in your area will be good in one way or another. You said you were looking for one that would teach you self-defence, while being fun at the same time. So heres a little way to narrow it down. Do you/ Have you watched many martial arts movies? Any that you like in particular and find interesting? (maybe some that you went OOH and AHH to?) Picking a particular style isnt as important as the goals you want to achieve from it but if you want something that will interest you we first have to see what you know and what you may like.
  12. Yea the girl that Chris Tucker** fights is pretty sweet, her name is Ziyi Zhang (just looked it up) and she starred in Crouching tiger hidden dragon, and House of flying daggers. as for me my favorite bad guy is...Chuck Norris in Return of the dragon as of now.
  13. Heh, im an 18 year old male who looks like a 14-16 year old, im 115-120 and im 5'5''. ive wrestled, and i go camping every year and want to learn the martial arts for mostly the same reasons you do . K weird comparison aside. Hmm, well you could do it my way and just watch alot of martial arts videos and read many documents such and sort of teach yourself a few techniques. But the more practical thing to do is scan your area for any nearby Martial arts clubs. Ask friends or family and they may know someone who takes martial arts. You have taken ballet so your flexibility (if you still have it) should be very useful in any martial art. You will gain a way to defend yourself, have fun at the same time, and who knows maybe find out a little about yourself and life in general while your on your path to rightesnous! hope that helps ~Peter
  14. So how do you efficiently condition your shins? I'd buy into the heavy bag and pad conditioning but lets face it neither of those are as hard as another persons shins, and when you are in a muy thai fight that would hurt.
  15. http://www.rossboxing.com/thegym/thegym21.htm theres a whole page of anaerobic and aerobic things, i would sum it up but im too lazy have a read and see for yourself.
