Hi Bushidoman, According to my friend who is practicing Yawyan, the giant baton bag is 7-ft tall, hardwood cored, rubber cement filled bag. I am not a yawyan practitioner ,but like this art verymuch.Another type of bag they use is rope spun around a big log covered with rugby/rubber cement. These informatins is taken from a yawyan discussion from another forum and is posted by yaw-yan practitioners .Picture of Giant Baton bag http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?pic=6/16115412438.jpg&s=f5 thanks

Middle eastern martial arts.

Indian Martial Arts Differant Martial arts are practiced in differnat parts of India. Some of them are Kalaripayattu(Kerala),Silambam(TamilNadu) ,Gatka(punjab),Thang Ta(Manipur),Vajramushti(Western Part)etc Kalaripayattu is an ancient art which is practiced in the southern state of India Called Kerala and some parts of Tamilnadu. There are mainly three branches of Kalripayattu. Northern(Vadakkan Sampradayam), Central(Madhya Keralam) and Southern(Thekkan sampradayam). The Northern style is very popular and it contains a lot of weapon training that includes sword and shield ,long stick, and a very dangerous flexible sword called 'Urumi'.The unarmed training consist of diisarms, locks ,throws and MarmaAdi(pressure point attacks). The northern styles are mainly practiced by the upper caste people of kerala and mainly this style is used to settle the problems between the royal families. Two Highly Skilled Kalrai experts will fight in a Angathattu(it's a type of ring ,something like that) with weapons until one die's.So it's mainly one -to-one Fighting and so it contains advanced techniques. There were families called 'chekavars' who trained fighters for this confrontations. Most of the fighters were these family members. So there were many family styles with in Northern systems. 'Thulunadan',Kadathanadan' are some of the famous styles. The Northern styles are very beutiful to watch contains a lot of high leaps and jumps and the guys are extremely flexible(There is a special massage (Uzhichil)with an ayurvedic oil for the flexibility). The style is well promoted by the government of Kerala. Here is some websites about Northern style(Vadakkan) http://www.kalaripayattu.org/index.htm.You can see some good pictures and there's a movie section too . http://www.vallabhattakalari.com/whats.html If you guys are still interested ,i can give some information of Southern and Central styles of Kalaripayattu.. Check out this website https://www.cimande.com. You can get a lot of information about pukulan Cimande. Its a pure Indonasian Silat style from the island of Java.I have undergone some classes in this style. It's avery brutal and a complete style. In the begining it's very hard to follow because it's just like a dance and it has very flowing movements. It covers striking ,grappling ,ground fighting ,pressure points, internal energy and so on.I have done some shaolin Kung fu before and what i feel is that the principle and techniques of Pukulan Cimande is completely differant from chenese arts. In the website above,It's wriiten that William wietzel was trained in the Cimande Silat by Mas Djut one of the famous Cimande experts.i have found some information that our Pandekar (Grand Master) had some training under William Wietzel.Later he followed his research on the pure Cimande Silat and had trained under differant Pandekars in Indonasia. You can find a lot more in the website. Thank You Abel -

hi Goju_boi First of all, i havnt studied yaw-yan ,but i am very eager to study this style.i'm planning to visit philippine's for this.I researched a lot about Yaw-Yan in the net. What i understood from my research is that Yaw-Yan has three divisions. 1.Yaw-Yan Kickboxing 2.Yaw-Yan combat 3.Yaw-Yan weaponaries Yaw-yan kickboxing is very famous in philippines as the yaw-yanistas has defeated all the styles like Karate,Kung fu, and even Muaythai in the ring and it is dominating in the filippiono kickboxing(standup fighting) field since it came in to being in 1972. Yaw-Yan Combat is the street fighting style of yaw-yan with all dirty techniques, grappling, groundfighting etc.It also has the same aspect of other filippino martial arts like 'Defanging the snake'(limb Destructions) etc. Yaw-yan Weaponaries-This the Arnis styles in which Grandmaster Napolean Fernandez is trained.i dont know much about it. Among these three ,YY Kickboxing became very popular as all of the students want to fight in the ring and very few was interested in the other two,ie YY combat and YY weaponaries. But with the introduction of MMA in Philippiones ,things had gone wrong.Although yawyanistas were unbeatable in the standup fighting ,they were not able to fight good in the ground. So some of the Yaw-Yans start mixing Yaw-Yan with grappling.an example is like Henry Koyabishi's Yaw-Yan called Hybrid Yaw-Yan(Yaw-Yan +Sambo) But Master Nap is not very much impressed with that and he came back from retirement and found Yaw-Yan Ardigma.I think Yaw-Yan Ardigma contains the above three styles of Yaw-Yan(YY kickboxing,YY combat,YY weaponaries) plus counters against various styles like Karate, Kung fu,Muay Thai ,Judo Jujitsu etc.The major principle of Yaw-Yan Ardigma is counter the grappling ,stay back in the feet and knockout the opponent with one of the powerful kicks or hand techniques. It can be used both in the streets and in the ring. The most interesting thing is that Yaw-Yan Ardigma is not shown to public yet.About twenty students are currently training under master Nap and i heard they will be ready by 2007.Training is very hard and is kept in very secret that the other yaw-yan clubs havnt got any information like how training is done ,the techniques and so on.Even if itzlike this i Have seen some ads in the Yaw-yan website and in some other forums about Yaw-Yan Ardigma Camp for foriegners etc.But i dont know anything else about it. thank you abel
