  1. Bravo, many popular maagazines and modern style martial artist should consider this. Just because one does not understand the meaning of a kata doesnt mean it is obsolete or people fight differently today than they did years ago.
  2. Most karateka have the term hand or fist in the name of their art. the feet should help your hands not the other way around. Kiscks are more powerfule and can be very damaging but a person who unerstands how to strike with hands will have the advantage. most people do not practice or perfect limb striking, a block is no more than a strike at a strike. take away your opponets weapons first.
  3. Its good against your average untrained attacker, however it is a grapppling sport and the selfdefefense was taken out for sport competition
  4. I already have my hands full with my current instructors teachings, but i would like to learn directly from Taika Oyata
  5. Alot of Tma training lacks realism. no one on the street leaves their arm out when they punch and in alot of systems practicioners dont see all of thier training as a whole. Kata is different from fighting which is different from self defense. boxers fight how they train as do mma and wrestlers. On top of that not everybody has the heart to go all out in fight like that, many of us who train have school, work etc.
  6. The moment you feel threatend or uncomfortable, you are being attacked. On the street people throw combinations, so strike the attack and your opponent at once.
  7. If you are concerend with scoring points, then the true essence of kumite is lost. If your opponet is reckless in charging in he does not feel threatened
  8. In Karate your fighting timing and strikes are developed from the kata. the techniques are like the letters in the alphabet, by themselves there is not much value, but once you begin to put pieces together and combine then to make words , sentences etc, your growth is limitless
  9. I currently study Okinowan Karate and am a member of the Ryute Renmei. I am looking for other students of any Okinowan or Japanese Karate system that wants to train or just discuss the arts
