  1. what we learned to do is put the knee on the same side as the arm that is trapped into our opponents butt and posture up. it also helps to use the arm thats trapped to pull down on the knee that is crossing over the opponents foot to add some leverage and to make sure you dont get caught in a triangle/armbar. also when you are doing the thing when you tuck in your arm around the opponents waist be careful of the omoplata and be ready to try and hop over him before he sits up. i hope this helps good luck.
  2. I think they allow the kicking downed opponents because it adds a lot to the excitement and realism of their fights, as for the elbows, I believe I read somewhere that elbows tend to open up cuts and since Pride emphasizes excitement, nobody ever wants to see a fight stopped because of a cut, but thats just my opinion. I also did see the Karo / Serra fight and it was indeed pretty good.
  3. I experienced similar aches and pains, since I just started about a week ago. However my neck pain is more of soreness from holding my head up off the ground to perform some techniques. I am not sure if you're experiencing the same thing because you might have actually received a neck injury, it if is severe i would go to the doctor but if its just a little I'd give it a couple of days. As for the red marks, I think thats pretty normal, I had the same types of marks on the neck (they kinda look like blood under the skin but they dont hurt, they just look bad). Hope this helped. Good luck.
  4. Well, I am the only one even remotely close to the other kids weight and the next closes weighs about 160, but if I were to grapple with him who would the even smaller kid go with? If, I do have to stay with this 55 lbs kid should just not do the knee on belly drills?
  5. Hey I just had my first BJJ Class today and I must say it was pretty cool. It only had one drawback, my parter was much smaller than me and I'm not sure what to do. I only weigh about 115, but my partner felt like he weighed around 55 lbs. He was so small I couldn't go to the knee on belly position because I was crushing his abdomen. Then, when we were drilling this choke, I couldnt execute it correctly because my forarm wouldnt fin in his tiny neck. We are the smallest two in the class and I dont really wanna roll with this kid anymore because I dont think I can learn as much. What should I do? Help is really appreciated, thanks in advance.
  6. hey guys, when i grapple, i sometimes get some rashy red itchy spots on my arms, do you guys know exactly what causes this and the technical name? Also, are there any ways to prevent or treat this without wearing a long sleeve rash guard?
  7. Hm, I am also interested in joining my HS wrestling team and I was wondering when is it too late to start wrestling and still be competitive, and what are the normal weight classes?
  8. Thanks guys, good feedback.
  9. Hello, I am (a newbie to MA and this forum) 15 and seriously interested in taking a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class at a local training facility run by Rodrigo Vaghi; I was wondering how much the classes should cost, and what the normal training regimen was for a BJJ class. I believe the monthly costs are as follows: once a week is $60, three times a week is $85, and everyday (assuming except for sunday) is $100; (plus $30 enrollment fee). I enjoy working out, sparring and wrestling with siblings, so i thought BJJ would be a good choice especially since the school is nearby and I am a big fan of the UFC, MMA events and MA in general. However, I am also some what apprehensive about being put in a class with a bunch of experienced BJJ masters and me left feeling dumb and embarrassed as I say "huh?..". Anyway, the website for the school is https://www.submissionjiujitsu.com. I would really appreciate anyone's comments that might shed some light on the subject and help me in a decision. Thanks in advance! -Peace
