Hello. I started with Grandmaster Yang back in 1984. He was a Master of Kuk Sul Won at the time. I trained with him for some time and my family moved away. I was able to climb to the rank of Brown belt. Many years later our paths crossed again. This time he was using the name of Kuk Sul Do. There is a lot of politics involved. Basically, some people in KSW were getting promoted because it was "good business". Grand Master Yang and several other masters from Korea broke away and formed Kuk Sul Do. It is very difficult to earn a black belt from Grandmaster Yang. You don't earn it, you need to "take it from him". Also FYI if you ever trained with GM Yang back in the day--you know how hard he pushes people. GM Yang has over 45yrs experience in the martial arts. I give GM Yang much respect. However, I to have moved on like others before me. I train for knowlegde of selfdefense. I have worked with several shoot fighters, UFC guys and BJJ guys. I am currently training in BJJ. I am trying to create a well rounded art. I have been in the martial arts for only 21yrs and I am still learning. I teach my brothers, my son and those who have the desire to learn. I do not teach just to make a buck. This is where too many schools get lost in "commercial" martial arts.
