    In Canada you don't have to wear all the protective gear in amateur fights. If you are doing full muay thai, you will always have to wear elbow pads, but headgear and shin pads only have to be agreed upon by the fighters. My promoter usually lets the visiting fighter decide what he or she want to wear. (of course if it is your very first fight, headgear is mandatory)
