  1. Hi all, what can you tell me about Combat Hapkido? I'm thinking about training in it, but I'm not sure. Thanks
  2. Thanks agian. The problem with Hapkido, is the only Tae Kwon Do school in my town is a McDojo, I was originaly going to train there, but decided against it. I think Combat Hapkido would be ok, but I would still like to train a traditional art. Sorry if I'm being to picky. Any other options? Thanks agian, and sorry if I'm to picky!
  3. Thanks, I was thinking about Hapkido myself, but there really aren't any schools around me. There is one about an hour away in Salina that is Combat Hapkido. Whats the difference, would it give me that same thing? Thanks agian!
  4. Hi all, most of you probably haven't heard of me cause I haven't been on for a while, and I mainly dwell in the Korean Arts Forum. Anyways, my instructor closed his DoJang and was teaching me privatly. Recently he has gotten really busy, and will remain that way for a while, so I thought I might as well take this to my advantage and cross train while I'm waiting for him to get back. I was wondering what Martial Arts you guys think would help accent my Tang Soo Do training. I am kinda hoping to stick with the Korean Arts, but any are welcome, so let me know what you guys think. Thanks!
  5. At my school we do a low backfist and then bring our front foot to our back foot and then hammer fist, then step and punch. But yeah, just like anything else, it varies from school to school.
  6. I can't give you much more advice than what was prevoiusly stated, and I would have to agree with it. Also, just hang around and watch a few a classes, see if it's what your intrested in. If he won't let you watch, then its probably not what you want anyways. Talk to former and current students see if they like or liked it.
  7. Sohan, I don't mean to be rude but I achived Cho Dan in 2 years and I definatly apprectiate the value of reciving it and what it really means. One year after my Cho Dan test (which would be now) I am preparing for my Ee Dan test. I can guarntee you that I appreciate and understand it more than some people who trained for it for 4+ years. If have anything else to say about that you can PM me that way we don't make a scene in front of the others, . Aside from that thanks for posting everyone, including Sohan, you have helped give me ideas, thanks agian.
  8. Thanks guys, you've been a big help!
  9. I continued to train because I "fell in love" and it had been part of my life ever since I started, and I didn't know what I would do if I quite. But what about my second question, what do you think is the best way to deter physical conflict? Thanks agian!
  10. Hey everybody, it's been a while but I'm back! For those of you who are a Cho Dan or above, why did you continue to train after reaching Black Belt? And for any one else, what do you think is the best way to deter physical conflict? Thanks everyone!
  11. I agree that I don't need an instructor there all the time but in the DoJang I can ask him for advice and questions, but with him not there and they being my juniors no one can awnser my questions. And yes I do practice every day, but it goes ack to questions agian, I stumble upon them while I'm practicing. Thank for the advice though.
  12. My instructor said that he will train with me on thursdays along with the other dans, but the problem about cross training is that there are really no other schools in our area. So I'm kinda stuck, but thanks for the responses guys!
  13. Hello every body, sorry I haven't been on for a while but I have had quite a few things to deal with. One of them is that my instructor has been teaching three hours a night, 5 nights a week, for 22 years, while also working for a land and title company. He is getting tired of doing both things and would perfer to do just Tang Soo Do but does not have enough students to make a living off of it, therefore he is semi retiring from teaching. This means that he will let 2 of his students run the DoJang 4 nights a week and he will teach the advanced students (green belt and above) on thursday, run the testings, and other major events but basicly he is letting the 2 take over. Both of the people who will be running it are my juniors, reason being I am only 14 and I am not aloowed to teach with my instructor's supervision. But they can not teach me either since they are my juniors. So my training is basicly over, exept for thursdays. Tang Soo Do is the best thing that has ever happend to me, and I hate to see this happen, what should I do? Thank very much!
  14. Acully, Up the Irons, Ho Sin Sool is an art by its self. What we see in Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do are exerpts from the art. and I was not worndering about the difference in Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, and Ho Sin Sool, I was wandering about Ho Sin Sool and Hapkido, hint the name!!!! And thank you for the information TSDforChrist! I found a Hapkido school in a town near me, maybe I can stop by and see what it i like!
  15. I know that Tang Soo Do teaches Ho Sin Sool, that were taken out of the art Ho Sin Sool. I have been wanting to learn to either the art of Ho Sin Sool or Hapkido to help me with Ho Sin Sool techniques in Tang Soo Do. This is where you guys come in!! What is the difference between the two? (Ho Sin Sool or Hapkido)
  16. My favorite form is also my highest, Jinto. I like the one leged stances!! When ever I learn a new form it tends to be my favorite. Acually now that I think about I like Chil Sung Ee Ro Hyung also!!
  17. Sorry to get the facts wrong! I must have mis interpreted it.
  18. Not all of the kwans followed, Grand Master Hwang Kee wanted his art/organization to remain seperate and he had to fight for the right to remain that way because the Korean government were the ones combing the kwans not the kwans themsevels. Also, before Won Kuk Lee tuaght under the name Tang Soo Do it was called Hwa Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan, Hwa Soo Do meaning art of the flowering hand. In the 60's, the time Tae Kwon Do was created, the organization renamied the art Soo Bahk Do, th Tang Soo Do schools that wanted to remain Tang Soo Do broke off and built all of the organizations we have today. Several Soo Bahk Do masters split off also and that is how we got so many organizations in the U.S.
  19. Congradulations on your success, glad I could be of some help. Sorry I did not mention the name but Jinxx0r was correct on that so I supose it dosent really matter that I didn't mention it!! Since I'm not in Soo Bahk Do, I have some questions about it. I know that Chil Sung is and form 1 are, but are all three of the basic forms the same? I also heard that you don't do the Pyong Ahn forms, is that true?
  20. Ours is the same, but our time in grade system works as follows: 10th to 2rd gup - minimum 3 month between gup test 2rd to 1st - 6 month minimum 1st to Cho dan - 9 month minimum 2nd - 2 or more yr after 1st 3rd - 3 or more yr after 2nd 4th - 4 or more yr after 3rd 5th - 5 or more after 4th 6th - 6 or more after 5th 7th - 7 or more after 6th As you can see there are very few variations form yours, EternalRage. We also use a black belt aside from midnight blue!!
  21. I have no idea about the Soo Bahk Do basic form 1, but I suspect that it is very similar to Tang Soo Do's! In TSD's there are 22 movements, shi sun and Baro are included, with out them there are only 20, it goes: 1. turn left and low block 2. step forward and middle punch 3. turn all the around and low block 4. step forward middle punch 5. turn to face the direction you start from (Choon Bee) forward and low block 6. step forward and middle punch 7. step forward middle punch 8. step forward middle punch, KiHap 9. turn your foot in and turn all the way around so that you are facing right form where you started and low block 10. step forward and middle punch 11. turn all the around and low block 12. step forward and middle punch 13. turn to go back down the center and low block 14. step forward and middle punch 15. step forward middle punch 16. step forward middle punch, KiHap 17. turn your foot in and turn all the way around to your right and low block 18. step forward and middle punch 19. turn all the around and low block 20. step forward and middle punch If you look at it from above it looks like a capital I or H dependeing on how you look at it!!
  22. No one ever said that Tang Soo Do is Shotokan, besides if look closely for the name TSD Y049, I agree with JaseP also, and I'm sure others think the same but they did not point it out their posts!!!! I, as a Tang Soo Do pratictioner understtand where are coming from because I do not want to be associated with Shotokan either, but I'm not going to go around putting things out of context to make my point!!!
  23. I perfer to edan dwi podo chagi (turning back kick) but most the more experinced dans in the school like speed breaks, which I have not done yet!
  24. In my school it is required for testing at 7th gup level and above, but it does not affect if you pass the test or not. My instructor buys all the boards for us if it is a testing or demo, but if it is for a tournament or tourney then we have to supply them.
  25. Thanks, no I haven't asked a recruter yet, but I don't like 'em, they are not very trustworthy!! I have also tried google and nothing of any value TO ME has come up. But thanks for the responses
