  1. We study Okinawan Goju-ryu. We also study weapons, IF we choose to do so, as they are not mandatory. You must be a green belt or above to begin. I personally, only study Goju-ryu and the Rokushaku Bo as far as weapons, as I think for me that is enough. But you can study all of the standard weapons if you wish. Carl
  2. I was wondering if somebody was going to name all of the Goju-ryu kata. We do things a little differently. I had to learn: Sanchin Gekisai dai Ichi Gekisai dai Ni Seiyunchin Saifa Sanseiru Shisochin for Shodan Seipai for Nidan For Sandan My teacher told me to pick one, as I am proficient in the rest of them. I'll be "testing" next month, after five years as Nidan. I chose Seisan because I think it's very short, but very sweet. Carl
  3. Thanks, Shotokankid. sorry it has taken so long to answer your question, but, I think that Shotokan is more like Shorin-ryu than Goju-ryu as I believe that he was a student of Anko Asato and Anko Itosu of Matsumura Orthodox Shorin-ryu. Carl
  4. Thank you all for the kind welcome. To italian_guy: No, I'm not a student of master? jules. I live in southwestern New York, south of Buffalo, almost into Pennsylvania. Carl
  5. Hi, My name is Carl. I study traditional Okinawan Goju-ryu and live in western New York, U.S.A. I've been snooping this forum for quite some time and thought it was time I jumped in. I hope I can contribute or at least enjoy myself. Thanks in advance. Carl
