  1. the above post sounds really bad, Actually I didn't even make a point. Sorry to have wasted everyones time.
  2. Of coarse I didn't plan on lying on the ground for any length of time, I also have to disagree with anyone that thinks that striking Would be superior than grappling in this one on one situation. It does not take but a few seconds to choke someone out especially if they are in a rage or on drugs, that is the only effective way to end the fight. I would not slug it out with a guy like this as all it takes is 1 haymaker to knock you out. Personally I would go to the ground as that is what works for me. I have never been successful trying to brawl with someone like this. I am assuming that this is on the street and not in a bar. In a bar, I would use the same Tactic whether going to the ground or not. (A clinch is fine with me.) I just think that a Doorman (bouncer) who uses any kind of strike is very unproffesional, especially if they really Injure someone, that could lead to a lawsuit. This is mostly my opinion but A choke has never seriously injured anyone if applied properly. I would also like to add that I was in this situation once. This was not in a bar actually this was on my private property. One day My 2 children were out playing when a group of skinheads were walking by, I was not close at the time but they started beating the crap outta my children. My wife Ran out and a huge fight was on. by the time I got outside my wife was fighting 3 Men, actually thinking back on it she was not doing bad at all. when I arrived I managed to take the heat off my wife by taking one of the assailants to the ground, I choked him out, I was on my back while his friends were kicking me in the ribs. I would say that 70% of the kicks landed on there friend who was unconciuos as he was my shield. By that time my wife had time to knock out a couple of guys(with a weapon of coarse) I met my wife in Korea she was my Tae Kwan Do Instructor and has her 3rd degree blackbelt. This is one reason that I do not prefer striking and think that grappling in this situation is superior for me. If any of you ran into Mike Tyson on the street and he was in a rage, would you even consider trying to fight him standing up? I wouldn't you must take him out of his element. I no longer fight in MMA tournaments due to my age. (trust me it matters I don't care what anyone says).
  3. Also remember, you may learn 1000's of moves but may only perfect 10-20 the only thing I have to say is if you feel comfortable with a certain technique then use it, if not throw it away. I have learned 1000's of techniques but I usually only use the basic moves from stand up to the ground, Good Luck.
  4. I thought that this was a one on one question, I would still take them to the ground and as TJS stated, Knee to belly is a very good position to be in as you can see what is going on around you and cannot be hit by the guy on bottom. If this were a 1 on 1 situation, I would just assume be in the guard most punchers make very bad mistakes while in the guard because they feel that their position is superior, even if it is uncomfortable. Besides I personally am not a great stand up fighter, I can usually hang with anyone for a few seconds until it is taken to the ground.
  5. You are probably right Gumbi, But Royce is the only one that I have heard say it.
  6. BJJ is probably the most practical type of self defense. And to answer your other question about the workout, you will discover muscles that you did not know you even have, It is a very good workout.
  7. The transition from wrestling to Judo or Jiu Jitsu is very hard, When I wrestled, I was trained to stay off my back, even if I had to give my back to my opponent, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu are the opposite, You never want your opponent behind you and also try to resist extending your arm because that leaves you open for the lock.
  8. A locked in full nelson Is very hard to escape from. I know some may say its weak, I doubt that they have been choked out with chin to chest, but yeah, try to never let your opponent have your back period, with yourt back you are open to nelsons, chokes and other really bad stuff, when you hit the ground, try to roll into the guard position, at least you will have some control, and never roll over to get up with your hands.
  9. Was his name Master Py Yeun, He used to be one of the best, He is a good friend of mine.
  10. 1.) The Guard (very Important, I finish a lot from the Guard) 2.) The Mount (Superior to the guard IMO, equally Important) 3.) any kind of takedown (gotta get em to the ground.) 4.) Arm Bar 5.) Chokes These are essential, But you must execute these moves with confidence and practice a lot.
  11. I cannot believe that I missed it. when does it come on again.
  12. Take the fight to the ground, It is so easy to shoot in and grapple someone that is in a rage and swinging wildly, also by them swinging wildly it tells me they may not know enough to handle themself on the ground. Trust me they will make a mistake(roll over to get up, extend thier arm, etc...) Which will leave them open to armlocks and/or chokes.
  13. Learn to grapple, also learn how to handle yourself until the fight ends up on the ground. Take the other fighter out of his/her element. If the opposing fighter is also good on the ground, well then you may wanna try to stay away as much as possible. Almost every Fight that I have been in has gone to the ground, from there its a chess match the first person to make a mistake will lose.
  14. Here is my list of best to worse street fighters. Royce Gracie (of coarse Rixon is better and Relson is more ruthless) Bruce Lee (Will fight to the death) Jet Li Stephen Segal (never seen him in a real fight, but is very clever) Chuck Norris (should not be on the list, But may do well against other Geriatrics.) The following should not be on the list at all. Jackie Chan Dolph Lungdren Wesley Snipes Jason Statham Jean Claude Van Damme (very bad)
