Hey i heard a couple of days ago on the news about a man who took some drug. Anyway, he attacked a couple of women and started choping them up with it and the only reason he stopped was coz he broke the sword doing it. So i guess there is going to be an even stricter law on swords.

I know it's japanese weaponry but what exactly does it entail. Do you choose what weapons you won't to learn, if so how many do you get to choose? And just a quick question- does each style of sai eg matayoshi v.s somethuing else, i mean does it really matter. Is one better then the other, do they actually have different moves and katas and stuff???

Well i dunno, my best mate has a pair of sais and you can still buy katanas, axes and stuff in shops. What i know is illegal is flipknives, throwing knives and stars!!!, and blowguns and crossbows. When i went to thailand in july i bought a heap of weapons, coz there all so cheap!!! Anyway in customs i got the throwing stars and the flipknife taken away, but i still got batons, an axe, a couple of tactical knives, a display katana and caltrops in. Caltrops are what ninjas use, you throw them on the ground then run and when your enemy walks on them they get blades shoved in there foot. But after my 6 year old brother accidentally stepped on one my mum destroyed them. Yeh so i dunno, can you still buy combat swords???

Elektrtas sais are a semi-flat diamond shaped blade. And if you look closely at the scene near @ start where she throws her sai and stabs the dude through the chair, when she goes to pull it out you can see that there is a curved blunt section on each side of the blade for gripping for manipulation. Whick explains how she can spin them without cuting her fingers off! I really like the patterns, they would be awesome for display! Are they japanese symbols or just scratchy markings?

Hey, A couple of years ago i found myself in the same situation.... When i saw Elektra in the Daredevil film. The advise i got was that sais arn't meant to be bladed, they are far to dangerous for a begginer and it isn't traditional. I settled for 21 inch hexagonal blunt sais insted, just until i can get a feel of them. Since then i haven't had any luck finding a bladed pair. If you type in~ factoryX Sais ~under google you will find a pair of replica elektra sais similar to the ones in the comic...the ones with the snakeish vine things up the side prongs. They're pretty kool but they don't have the kool pattern like off the Elektra film. Apart from that you could talk to a custom weapon maker. The one i was emailing refused to make them, so GOODLUCK. Keep me posted !!!

yeh, kool...thanx for that. im actually from ausssie but i would say the same or similar laws would apply. one thing i don't understand is where you can get such licences and permits. And can you just stroll up and ask to apply for one or do u need some sort of reason?

I was watching a tv show just the other night, and on it a police officer took a retractable baton off his belt and with just a flick of his wrist the baton oppened. ok.... Do batons actually work, i mean if they r retractable, then they would have to have an incredibly strong steel in order for it not to dint or bend. Do they bend/break

thanks guys! I love katanas, and Sais. I was given an old pair of sai from my grand dad. Im not sure wear he got them from. They need to be oiled coz there is no chrome plating. As for Katana, i would love to start kendo or something but i unfortunatly can't until i move. which i can't for 3 years. So i was just curious, if you want a katana that WONT break in real combat, what would the most suitable steel would be.

i know almost nothing about swords and all that but i am slowly learning. I know about tang, samurai sword sizes, sai history and a little on the Gurkha knife. But what would be really handy would be to know which steel is good for what. Stainless steel i know is strong and doesn't rust, but is it strong enough for realistic combat, If so would it be recamended for use? What r some other steels that r not to heavy that can with stand damp air and water without corroding? Thanks!~~~

Yeh i totally would but...........i toom it apart coz me dad wanted the rope and i am at the moment trying to make it again. The problem is the paint lid is bent. Basically what it was, was a short sword with a hooked handle. Attached to the hande was two short ropes. And on the end of one of the ropes was a paint lid which i was pretending was a circular blade. If you take the paint lid off and hold the weapon by the blade you can also use the ropes as weird whip things. Pretty kool. I don't think i've ever seen it on a movie b4.?

I've have been reading other pests that have been mentioning custom made weapons. Does anyone know any good custom weapon sites, if so i would appreciate any infomation. Say if you designed your own sword, would be possible to give them the designs and they would have it made for you???
