Ninjitsu, streetfighting, and ground jujitsu. I am not goign to specific on what types. I do alot of self training at home and have many high dan friends that teach me alot. But over all i love my classes.
Truthfully all kick boxing is is watered down Muy Thai. Muy Thai has almost all the same strikes and defensive techniques as kick boxing but Muy Thai has more of is close quarters power strikes such as knees and elbows. In a street fight alot of fights are taken to the ground or end up with punches wailing on top of each other. A quick elbow and knee is alot of time the only thing you can do if you can't give a full punch, unless you know a grappling art. Over all kick boxing had most of its history from Muy Thai and western boxing.
The choice depends on if you want striking or close quarters fighting. If you can try to train in both and if you are really trying to get somewhere in martial arts I would recoment boxing. The bobbing and weaving that boxing teaches in combination with striking skills makes for a defensive powerhouse.
I once thought of looking into TKD but I consider it more of a sport than a true Martial Art. I think the use of hands is extreamly important for a real fight considering most fight resort to really close combat or rolling on the ground. I live in LittleRock which is the headquarters of ATA and I have to say that they pritty much just hand out the belts. Also the black belts are so undertrained knowing first person from an experiance I had at a compitition, most had no idea what to do on a rush of punching flurrys because they are so leg bias. I am not insulting Tkd or ATA I just think that over the years it has gone down hill. Regards
