i am interested in starting martial arts and i have done some research about styles. Now i have the problem of talking to my parents about it. My parents are very anti violence and my dad is worried that i will get enjoyment out of hurting other people. I want to do martial arts for fitness and competition. Any advice on how to talk to my parents about this?

I am looking for this for a friend. He had found an art that he said focused on dodging and redirecting attacks and then counterattacking, rarely initiating(sp?) attacks. He's starting to get on my case about figuring this out so if anyone could hel that would be great

how is the power generated in the kick. I have a very hard shot in soccer but i generate the power with my hips and a fast snap of my lower leg. Is it similar?
