simpso1j started following Krav Maga any good? , coffee drinkers? , Have you ever heard about a student failing a belt test? and 7 others

I train in Krav Maga and I pay $90 per month. The normal price is $100 per month, but I get a 10% law enforcement discount.

What does BB really mean to you?

To me, a black belt means you know the basics of the system (you have the tools). it is from that point on that you learn how to use those tools. -
Yep... I drink too much coffee and I usually drink it late in the day, which means I am up late at night. I sometimes have headaches on the weekends (withdrawals) because I don't always get my coffee on Saturday and Sunday.

Have you ever heard about a student failing a belt test?
simpso1j replied to Bleeding Lion's topic in Karate
Yes. I've seen several over the years. This usually happens when a sensei submits a student for promotion just to have someone from their dojo testing. I've seen tests where the person was up to a year away from actually being ready, based on their performance in the test. -
Jason bourne fighting style

SO TRUE!!! It is movie-do - as most movies are but the fella at the beginning of this is correct - it is Kali and something else - not sure about boxing. That arm break in the embassy isn't THAT difficult. I love the style and was quite suprised that there isn't any mention of Krav Maga in it! Is there Krav Maga in the Bourne moves? Please excuse my ignorance. -
Krav Maga Krav Maga (pronounced "Krahv Magah" and means "Contact Combat" in Hebrew) is the official self defense and fighting system used by the Israeli Defense Forces (I.D.F.), Israeli Police and Security Services, and numerous U.S. law enforcement agencies. Since1964, Krav Maga has been taught to civilians and law enforcement all over the world as well. This unique training method has been recognized as the most efficient self-defense system for real-life situations, emphasizing practical defenses against real attacks. It has been taught to hundreds of U.S. law enforce-ment agencies and thousands of civilians. Krav Maga is a simple, effective self-defense system emphasizing instinctive movements, practical techniques and realistic training scenarios. Plus, because it's based on a person's natural reactions, it is easy to learn. You can become proficient in months rather than years. The Krav Maga system incorporates fitness, self-defense and fighting like no other system. Krav Maga's top-rated Fitness classes compliment training by toning muscle and dramatically improving strength and stamina. Krav Maga's self-defense classes are a total-body workout that combines kicking, punching, street fighting, ground fighting, and defenses against weapons, getting students into prime physical shape. The total-body workout benefits of the Krav Maga self-defense and fitness system have been featured in publications such as Shape, Men's Fitness, USA Today, US, and SELF, as well as television from CNN and Extra to The Today Show.

SHOULD I STAY OR GO? DISRESPECT WITHIN THE DOJO.
simpso1j replied to shitokai-student's topic in Karate
I recently left a dojo after 8 years because of politics and deceitfulness. I was (am) a second degree BB and was training for my third degree test, which would have been in March. The instructor lied to me and tried to play me against another senior student, who also happens to be my best friend. She lied about him to our head master, causing him not to get his own dojo. It was a big mess. In one fell swoop, she lost 6 black belts (which is all she had). She now has three people that are brown-tip, green, and green...and one white belt. The three people with color on their belts are all suffering from injuries right now. I did not want to give up what I have worked so hard towards, but with the problems and the politics, I had to move on. It turns out that I ended up in something a lot better (Krav Maga). I love it and have become close friends with the two instructors (Mike Diamant and Sam Sade). They came to St. Louis and started a Krav Maga school in early October. The first group, of which I am a part, is going to be testing for level 2 on 2/20. I am also taking over management of their web site, https://www.kravmagastlouis.com, which is the same job I did for the other school. I feel like I found my home...I found where I am supposed to be. By the way, two other BB's from the other school joined at the same time. One of them has been my best friend for 12 years. -
Your greatest achievement in the martial arts?
simpso1j replied to 1kickKO's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I would have to say my first degree black belt test. I was ON. My moves were quick and precise. I felt like I was in the zone. I was told afterwards that my test was one of the best. None of the styles I've been involved in did tournaments. -
You could also do this with your eyes closed. I bet that would work pretty well.

My former instructor (from Shido-kan) used to talk about anything and everything that was NOT martial arts related. After Christmas, she had everyone tell the class what they got for Christmas. It also happened at other holidays. I would always wish that I had not come to class. No more of that. My current instructors keep the class moving and they don't deviate from class material...at all.
