I started out with a Kamikaze Medium Weight Gi which cost me $60(cnd) or $40(usd) and I find it's great. I wanted the more expensive Arawaza Gi, but figured I'd start cheap until I knew I wanted to stay in Karate.
This past Thursday after 5 and a half months of training, I passed my first belt test and received my Yellow Belt. I train in a Tsuruoka Style Dojo. It's been excellent!!!
I got my size 6 Kamikaze Medium Weight Gi and I was also a little worried since I'm 5'10" and weigh 160lbs. My buddy's the same height but weighs 205lbs and they fit the both of us just fine. Out of the bag it seemed HUGE but wash/dry it and it'll shrink perfectly!
Anyone have the Arawaza - Sapphire Gi? I've only had 2 lessons so far but I love it and I really want a good one. Our Sensei sells Kamikazi and Arawaza at really good prices.
First lesson was awesome we learned a lot of really cool stuff. Except I've already forgotten some of it doh! We learned how to punch and were shown that in a single punch that there are 3 way to defend ourselves. I can only remember 2 of them. The obvious is the punch to attack... and the other I remember is bringing your elbow back to elbow someone behind you. What's the 3rd guys? Thanks!
Hey guys I'm new here and have become really interested in Marital Arts over the past few weeks. I've been working out at the gym for almost 3 years and am growing tired of it. Decided to give Karate a try and watched a Tsuruoka (Shotokan?) class tonight. Me and my bud are gonna give it a try Monday. The Sensei said we could even try it for a month for free... if we don't like it... we don't lose a cent. I can't see me not liking it though!!! Later!!!
