  3. so nice to hear that from Cobosan... it would be very touching if I were there~~ I am not a handicapped person, just woundering how do they perform katas, Shorinryu Sensei say for a one armed person, bassai dai just dont fit for those double block at the beggining... How will you modify it~~?... can you tell a bit more~~ thanks.
  4. When I was yellow or green belt, I d/l some kata video from a USA website In one of them, is UNUS Then it become my ALL time fav. It is the first kata I saw that lay down, I just WOW to every steps, the 4 direction punch, knee kick, and the spinning jump. and Now, after watching more and more kata video (especially UNUS) I finally understand the kata, and know how to perform(although never do I) then I just found my 1st UNUS video that insprited me actually wasn't something GOOD.... Unbalance, leading stand, weak kick, inconsisent speed...etc then I understand that actually I had learn this kata from observation.
  5. Do anybody know any karate club train disabled person? Do they train Kata? For Sochin, it would be the perfect kata to be performed with wheel chair. How about other type of disable?? Any idea?
  6. Well thank you for all of your reply... never can I receive such rich response from other sites/forumns Actually I am NOT considering opening my own school...(I am 4yrs old only!!~~in MA training.) What I am thinking of is, What do you invest in MA? Time? Money? Effort? Mind focus? Then what do you get in return? like this: Is there any more you would consider as a return from MA training? then how much do you need them to become EARNING from MA training... So do I...Just take it as kind of social contribution...but am I giving out when I am debit balance? desire to pass your skills on to others...Surely it is a important element as an instructor... at this stage the investment become "desire to teach" and "teaching time", but the return should be on the student side, till they win competitino, till they assist in teaching, till they teach their own student... How would you meaure the overall growth of you school? Number of student? Cash in flow? Trony Won? Number of class? say the talent pool: For these two opinion together, you can see the money invest would be measureable, but not the return, so how would you up track the growth in the "talent pool" and yet make good use to it. (unlike Mcdojo is making money out of the pool, the one with highest talent shall make largest money, I think most school is training student to create no value to others.)
  7. Hi guys, I had been trainning for 4yrs in karate, and had always been thinking in all kinds of MA issue... I'd been Read Only in here for serval months, Now I got an Questions, Please teach me. As Captioned, "Martial Arts ROI (Return Over Investment)" What is your investment? What is your return? How much do you value them? Wht do u expect others to invest in MA training? Wht do u expect to get from MA training? How long did you take to become break even? (Did you??) How do you measure a break even? In terms of an indivdual, it is very difficult to answer all of the above questions...(at least for me) However, my true concern is, in terms of an dojo, an organisation, or a business, how would you track / measure the over all growth ?? how do you value the skill sets, technique within, coach/staff, growth over time and effort input from all teaching coach/assistant ??
  8. After years of study and visiting other dojos, I also meet many special students with some sort of problem. I am a senior student and coach assisant in the Club I regluarly attend, this year a girl with Balancing problem took up much attention from my Sansei. She just can't balance on one leg, and will naturly led back. Everytime she perform Geri, her eyes lost focus and will blend backward on her wist. We must pay full attention to her and assign one or two person to accompany in case of accident. In Asia, underweight is a more common problem than overweight. Girls just affected by the standard model body shape that they often seem on fasion magzine or fitness TV cM, and think that a thin and weak body means beauty and healthy. Most girls doesn't interest in MA training, and for those who does, only those type of Boy-alike girls can perform with good power and speed...other still subject to underweigth. Problem would appear in the future: Either we would got more black belt who can withstand the training than color belt or we got a normal distibution of belt member with a lower standard... How would you guys react to this problem?
