Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. Well Trodai is an Irish martial art taking influence from Lau Guar Kung Fu and Kickboxing amongst others. It's *grand master* is a guy called Bob Burke. He's from Northhampton (UK) and also teaches Tai Chi. The art is mainly in Enlgand and Scotland now, but only a few clubs exist including some in London, Northhamptonshire and Leicestershire (my own club - though recently we've distanced ourselves from the others... God knows why...) The art is all practical really without any spiritual aspect but apparently Bob was trying to incoporate Tai Chi more when we broke away. Any more questions... This probably wasn't much use to be honest!
  2. Hey there... Someone looking for me? Ask me about trodai and I'll try and tell you what I can. elliotspirrett@hotmail.com Cheers!
  3. I would be quite interested to learn some of the more spritual side to martial arts, as I am a huge fan. However, my own style (Trodai Karate) is actually irish and though it takes its ideas from Lau Gar (sp? I trained in it and don't even know how to spell it!) Kung-Fu, it has no religious grounds or even remotely spiritual. Therefore I would quite like to give Aikido a try as I have read this art uses meditation amongst other things to bring control. Whatever you put into the art you unltimately recieve, so it is the practicioner perogative to gain and learn things.
  4. I made a huge mistake the other week of insulting our senior black belt jokingly, only he took it seriously and was unbelievable mad! I was just wondering what's the worst situation anyone has got themselves into at training. I think that causing myself to be threatened to be killed by a large, rugby playing, 2nd Dan Black belt, ex-British Karate Champion, with experience in Muay Thai and Kickboxing amongst others, has to be the biggest mistake of my life. Can anyone top that?
  5. Hi, I'm looking for ANY martail arts in the North Leicestershire area, or anywhere near. Thanks
  6. What is xma? like the skin affliction? joking. but what is it and what is the idea?
  7. Hi, I'm currently looking to start a new martial art, and think that Capoeira would be very interesting. Could someone put me onto anybody that could help me? Thanks, Elliot
  8. Hmmm. Hadn't thought of it like that! I was just thinking like some kid at school or on the street. I suppose it could elscalte but the average human should realise that they have been beaten, and just get over it if they are humiliated. It's a lesson! But I can see what you mean. I have now been humiliated and accept defeat!
  9. Sorry for the double post. Please could it be deleted?
  10. Well no I don't think so. If you fight someone and they humiliate you terribly by kicking your * all over the place, you are going to be wary of fighting them because you know they have the ability (if they need to) to hurt you and damage you. If you humiliate someone it will affect them psycologically as well as physically, and it will take them own a peg. I know that this works especially well with bullies, as they think that they are the nuts, but if they are humiliated, they become more aware of the pain and torment they put others through. Thus they begin to see the other side of the story, and perhaps begin to rehabilitate. In this way humiliating an enemy wil damage their pride and will make them think twice before doing something similar again.

  12. Yeah, in a life or death situation it is an idea (if running awa is no longer an option) to end the fight with one tecnique. However in the street, if some kid just starts a fight with you, humiliating him is enough, for example, a sweep, or just batting him around. He'll get the idea soon enough and won't give you any more trouble. But this is slightly off the subject...
  13. I go to a club where there is a lot of middle aged memebers, which is expected. One of these (I'm not saying her name), is quite new but also quite tallented, but she seems quite innocent at first. This, I found out, was not so, in a small competitive element to the lesson, she had to spar against a senior blackbelt, who she decimated, (noting that this woman is a 9th kyu, red belt, with no previous experience), I had to fight her next, and having not seen the previous fight I thought she had been given an easy ride, and he had let her win. This is when it all became apparent, as blow after blow rained down on me, and I was kicked and punched to pieces...in my defence/poor excuse she was using full contact moves in a semi contact stuation. Later in the lesson during the sparring at the end, in an attempt to redeem myself, I challenged her again, again losing painfully, but mainly to my own faults. Trying to cresent kick her, in an attemt to get more space, i fell flat on my ar*e much to the delight of other students. If this wasn't bad enough, weeks later I repeted the same thing with a steping rounhouse kick on my friend and main rival at the club. I now have to slow my stepping kicks down, as i keep leaving the floor, and ending up in painful and a tangled mess...
  14. This is; A) The most random thread in the world, and B) possibly the most useful one in the world. I would personally use a blow dart on the cat. Be funny to see it get rid of that. Hmmm a cat on a drip would be an amusing image... Or you could just put the pill in the families budgie. The cat would soon have to pill, one way or another. Or eat the pill yourslef and pretend to hide it from the cat, it'll soon find and eat 'em, 'cause at the end of the day, if you have it, the cat wants it too!
