YES!!! I FINALLY GET TO START WEAPONS!
GojuRyu Shawn replied to GojuRyu Shawn's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Well, escrima sticks. Lucy sticks. Sticks that are 2 feet long and 1 inch in diameter. -
My instructor said (when I became yellow belt) that I can start weapons! I went to the hardware store last night to buy some dowel for the rattan sticks, and I ordered a bo from my sensei. I get to start on monday! I'm psyched!

We did kata in complete darkness once, and we had one of those markers to signal where you start and where you should end. It was wierd cause the people sitting down heard a kiai and didn't know who it came from

I bowed when exiting my music classroom...

Ooooooo! A mac. I hate PCs. Just too many viruses. PLUS I CAN PLAY HALO ON MAC!

But in theory, katas usually start with a defensive move.

How to get sensei to teach me my new stuff?
GojuRyu Shawn replied to GojuRyu Shawn's topic in Karate
Haha, he just taught me new stuff. I already knew the block, the Kake Uke, but I didn't know the back hand passed UNDER the front hand after it went across. And I know the first 8 moves of takyoko(spelling, i know) kake uke. -
Well, my friend is a brown belt black stripe. He offered that I join, so I went one class. Loved it. Been training for about 6 months now(just got my yellow belt). It's likea I found my lifes caling, my passion. Someday I wish to be a black belt and have my own studio.

Think of something totally opposite than karate, and look at their front shoulder on the defensive. When on the offense, always look directly into their eyes, even when punching. People usually look where they're going to punch, so try to get some coordination on punches.

I love it in episode 10 or 11 i think, and they're talking with some guy in a pelican, and they say SEND MEN! and the guy says" howlong have you guys been in that canyon?"
-

So, I'm a yellow belt in Goju Ryu, and white belt in Kabudo. I own a bo, and some rattan sticks. But I hope that my parents will buy me some new weapons for christmas. I don't know any 'advanced' katas, sadly, and I fear that my classmates will laugh at me... I'm doing it in a duo, me and my friend Cole will be doing bo katas, and he will probably do a tonfa kata. He also knows every kata up to sanseyryu (spelling?), and will be doing most of his katas. I know up to geksai ni (maybe up to sanchin or possibly saifa if my friend is kind enough to teach me.) Point: What katas should I do, and if I get some new weapons for christmas, make up some katas or do non weapon katas with weapons? I have 2 short swords at home, so maybe I can throw together a kata by the talent show. The talent show is only a few months away, and I wanna be prepared!

Generally, a persons fighting stance has them one shoulder forewards. Stare at that one shoulder when you are on the defence. You will find that it helps a bunch, seeing any muscle quiver to start a punch. But srate at their eyes when you are on the offense. Usually, people look downwards if they're going to punch the stomach area. Just keep total eye contact with the person.

I have 2 methods. Supposing you were not to move, and the person would step foreward to push you. 1: Put your 2 arms up and through the gap between his 2 arms, and maneuver his wrists/hands into your armpits and lock em in. Then, push up on both elbows, or upper tasho, breaking the arm. 2: Grab both of attackers hands, and bring them downward and slam them together with all of your might.

So, I recently became a yellow belt, and i've been doing the same old boring white belt stuff for about a month. I've asked my sensei if he's going to teach me that week, but he always says "maybe" and it never happens. How can I be firm, but not pestering, saying "I want to learn new things oriented with my belt level. He has taught all other belts (except the new browns) their new katas, blocks, and such, except this new green belt, cause he hasn't shown up for a while. Any tips, or things I should say?

I (believe) that out crane stance is basically a nika washi dache, where you have your feet close together, and your back foot is twisted outwards towards the wall beside you or something. The front foot is this: pointed forewards, but you're standing on the toe area of your foot. ALL of your weight is on your back leg. To step forewards you just have to turn your front foot outwards and bring your back foot in front of you.

My friend is brown belt black stripe, and he had to break boards to grade. But that was a diff. sensei before I joined, and now you dont have to. I break pencils sometimes, but I wanna go further. I just wanna see if I have what it takes.
