  2. im scared that if i start getting into the technical side of karate too much i might loose my fighting instinct and get crappy at sparing. i love training but i dont think i could handle the responsibility with getting black belt. advancing to ni dan would be hard too as you have to help train a class and i recon i'd make a * teacher all i know how to do is too fight, what should i do, should i train onto 1st dan and take on the responsibility or stay at miserable 3rd kyu for the rest of my training days???

  4. i think Karate kid is the bom!! i enjoyed watching the second one recently which i havent seen since i took up karate and i loved it even more knowing i do karate, sort of like a tribute to me a guess. mr meagay really spoke to me... and i like the part where daniels asian girlfriend thinks he act stupid all the time, oh and the hard core asian gangster, oh and the part where he break the ice is cool too, i wonder if i could do that
  5. osu! the tournament is ring karate so i only get one fight but i think its more intense than tournaments. sucks what happoned to you coco, in dojo sparing we usually exchange a few kicks to the side without much damage so i understand where your coming from, the only thing im worried about is geting my kick blocked with the knee and smash my shin so much i wont be able to walk, since i do most of my fighting with punches and low-mid kicks im not worried about the guards restricting my hight although a good heal to head techniqe is very effective to knockdown an oponent when he's tierd and not expecting it
  6. Im going into a kyokushin knockdown tournament in a month or so. we have to wear a mouth guard and a groin guard but have a choice of weather to wear shin guard or not. this will be my first knock down as before i was in the junior devisions which had to wear the whole shebang, head gear and all. i think the shin guard obviously help out if i land a geden mawash on his knee but make it prety hard for me to kick to the head, i know what your going to say, it all depends what you feel comfertable with.....bla bla bla, but does anyone have a story where they were praying to god they put those shin guards on or where they landed a perfect geden which didnt do much because of the pading???
  7. we had a few injurys at our tournament and most of them happoned in the older contestents, the thing in non contact is that sometimes you can slip up and because you can "punch" to the head thats usually where most people slip up, really theres nothing to worry about, the atmosphere will be great and maby you'll go away with a trophy or two, good luck man
  8. Hi, Im going in a knock down kyokushin tournament in a few weeks, i was wondering if anyone can help me out with my training, right now i train 5-6 days a week but im planing to take it easyer as the tournament date gets closer say 2 weeks, im not sure if i'll be doin the right thing, is it good or bad to train hard before a tournament? i also go to the gym 3-4 times and run a little bit but not as much as i should be, should i run more to build up cardio and endurance? how does everyone else train? what food should i eat right before the tournament? does anyone know what athletes eat before they go out on the track or what brand of cerial kostya tzu eats? and on a lighter side does sex the night before a comp have a negative effect on "performance". I know i always feel better in the morning but i herd that you shouldnt do it.
  9. i hate rolling on the ground, the last fight i had i sort of lost because the guy "grppled" me down and put me in a lock where he repeatadly smashed me in the head and that sayed you can probably tell that i do a striking art. even though the guy got me on the ground im sure his back was just as scratched up as mine, btw my oponent does wrestling and he was doing it a bit longer than i have karate. I tell you this but, i was really drunk when i got into the fight and could hardly stand on my feet, if you ever seen someone throw a punch only to land on the ground... that was me, and before i hit the floor i messed him up prety good, and i had mates wating around the corner "who didnt know i was fighting as i went to defent my honour, by myself" who would have killed the guy shold they have known, therefor im sticking to my striking art, hope that helped
  10. Its true i guess it all depends on the school, a few months ago a first deg TWD came to train at my dojo, and, with all respect to him for being a blackbelt, he had alot of trouble performing the kicks in the basics, his punches were more like flicks and in sparing he didnt land many blows on me and im 3rd kyu kyokushin. I know were suppose to look at each art without too much critisizm and that each one has its faults but seeing students like that i don't know what to think... perhaps he was just a poor student as most TDK fighters are good at long range fighting but lack the skills to come up and fight close, as for leatha, i think all arts have "lethal" techniques if you can perform them right eg. shto to the temple or decending onto the sholder to break the collar bone
