White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. I have an issue or two of Muay Thaimes from 2000. They published a few trial issues and were supposed to go full bore with it, but never did. The old issues I have featured stuff like fight reports and interviews. I remember one had a good interview with Bang Ludwig. I liked the mag a lot even though they were only about 10 pages long. I'm glad to see them publishing full issues now. I will look for it on the magazine racks.
  2. K-1 is a Japanese promotion and traditionally in Japan, kickboxers have always worn shorts. Today's K-1 also features many Dutch fighters, who's roots trace back mainly to Japan and Thailand, hence the short pants. An exception might be when Benny Urquidez started fighting in Japan in the 1970's while wearing full length pants. Many of the Japanese fighters also started wearing long pants to emulate Urquidez
  3. textom & karateka latino - I'm with you guys on the fact that you can't just single out one guy as the greatest. Much like the baseball or football hall of fame - there's literally a whole fraternity that has to be considered not just a single person. The term "one of the greatest of all time" is an elite group that includes many.
  4. This fight was from May 1997 in San Jose, California on an ISKA Strikeforce event. It was a good matchup and a good fight held under California modified MT rules (no elbows, no knees to head). George's last name is spelled Tsutsui - those ESPN bozos got it wrong. My gripe is that there was never a rematch. There should have been one - it would have been great.
  5. This fight took place back in 1975 and was broadcast on closed circuit tv as part of the undercard to the Ali vs Frazier - Thrilla in Manila. I believe the actual fight took place in the US somewhere. Does anyone know where this fight actually took place ?
  6. I remember Steve Shepherd well. A pioneer of the sport in America and an all time great. Back in the early 1980's as a middleweight, he challenged the heavyweight champion (Demetrius Oaktree Edwards) at the time and beat him by unanimous decision. He has wins over Don Wilson, Bob Thurman, Dale Cook, Ted Pryor, Earnest Hart, Bob Ryan and others. A true legend. Some of my all time greats : North America - Shepherd, Wilson, Urquidez, Theriault, Roufus, Mo Smith, Dorsey, Bill Wallace, Joe Lewis, Cliff Thomas. Europe - Ernesto Hoost, Rob Kaman, Ramon Dekkers. Japan - Toshio Fujiwara.
  7. Jim_at_Austin - can you e-mail me at Ngssup@aol.com ? Type in "Superfoot" in the subject box. Thanks.
  8. 47MartialMan - Yeah, Wallace was part of the Magnificent 7 or whatever they called themselves. They were all after Segal. Had a bunch of famous guys in it. Karateka_latino - Thanks for the info. I think I've seen those tapes still for sale. I'll try to find out.
  9. I was never really impressed with Wallace back in his heyday. Don't get me wrong, I thought he was good, but never thought he was great so to speak. However, I recently got some old tapes of Wallace that I had never seen before and let me tell you, I was very impressed. He was every bit as good as the hype. I've never seen anybody that can kick to the head as quickly or as powerfully as Wallace, and those kicks came off his lead leg with KO power, very impressive. I'd say he was protected by the PKA somewhat, but he was their golden goose. They had to look after him. The fight with Blinky definitely sounds like they protected him. I've never seen the fight, but would like to see it. If anyone here has a tape of that fight or knows where I can buy or trade for it, then please let me know.
