  1. I would say that Krav Maga seems to full fill you wishes and your needs. I dosen't have any filosphy, it's just pure selfdefence, no bullshit. It also deals with multiple opponents, not only in a military way of thinking, it's addapt to be used as a civilan aswell. KM is not a sytem that you will enjoy watching for it's artistic beauty. You will enjoy the usefullness of it. It's simple and effective, it's real life tested way too many times. But thats why they keep changing and develop the system to improve it. KM does not train you to fight in a ring. There are no ringfighting at all. I don't know how you compete in a selfdefence system: It would look something like this. you have two guys, one in each corner. As soon as the they hear the bell they both run out of the ring and hide. They both win. I hope you find a system that you like, I found KM. karlberg
  2. 47MartialMan: I know my misstakes, but by that time I had never spent any time with martial Arts. This was actually 3 days before I left for the army. This was probably an experiment that helped me find my way to KM, let's just say: Learning by doing. The second time, the one with my ear. Well I didn't feel much pain, I have braked my eardrum afew time before and I know the feeling. I remember one of those times, I didn't have it checked for two or three days, and that sure hurt. Don't do my mistake, be carefull as you dive of the 10 meter platform. I'm a experienced diver but you still make misstakes sometimes.
  3. I got knocked out once a couple of years ago at a bar. Few guys started fighting with my frienes girlfriend and him and when I went there to stop them I grabbed one guy from behinde, the next thing I remember was two or three hits in the back of my head and I dropped to the floor. I got back out very quick and I crawled out and told the people behind the bar what was going on and they call the cops. We spent the rest of that nigt at the station and at the hospital. The never checked my injure but my two friends needed treatment over night. The guy that was most active during the assult got convicted later on. Then I've almost got KO:ed during a Krav Maga seminar. we were grappeling and I got kneed right on my ear. First I tought that I poped my eardrum, but after a visit to the hospital we found out my eradrum was only bruised and had a little crack ( I didn't know you could get bruises on your eardrums). Lucky for me the seminar was held at a military base so there was.walking distance to the hospital.
  4. What's wrong with Krav Magas gun defence? You change the way the gun is facing and you also do a bodydefence while striking your opponent, what else is there to do? Krav Maga is not only used in Military purposes, but also for civilians, cops, bodyguards. there are diffrent techniqes for diffrent situations. In war a gun vs empty hand doesn't have to equal death, what if you attack from behinde or you are up very close? The system also teach you to use things in your enviorment as weapons. I have trained KM in the army and I served as an MP we traind both as Policemen and soliders diffrent techniqes depending on the mission. Now I traine the civilan part of the system. Well I would say that it's a very well combat tested system, there are several units around the world useing the system for exampel: FBI CIA US Coast Guard DEA Police in Israel, US, GB SWAT teams in Sweden and Finland The Swedish and Finnish Military G.I.G.N (Groupe de Intervention Gendarmerie National), French Antiterrorist unit. I.D.F. So I would say it's a system that is proven to work every day. And when they find something that doesn't work or something that fullfill the purpose better, it's quickly changed. KM is a system that is always under developing.
  5. Delta1: I wasn't offended, it actually feels like we think the same way. I do belive in crosstraining, especially since KM is a mix of other systems. There are many great systems and I would like to try some of them, as a matter of fact I might attend to a Kali sikaran seminar in a fes weeks. The name of that seminar is Knife. Kempo I on't know were much about so I don't have an opinon about it, but from what I have heard it's supposed to be a very good system aswell. I'm not here to defend Krav Maga, I'm here to discuss the system. But about the crook against knives, It's not anything you early in the system, it comes on a more advanced level. the system is designed so that you are suppost to be abel to use what you learn at once. First you learn to block the knife attacks and to get away from you opponent. The croock is used when you are going to dissarm your opponent.
  6. I would just like to say that Km as a system is always under construction, so if they would find out that those hooks against knives didn't work, they wouldn't be a part of the system anymore. I have tried them in full speed with metal knives, not sharp once, and they worked for me. Yes if the opponent is twice your size and your not good att that technic, then don't use it. You will get hurt if you don't do it correct. Another thing about the knife fight as we train in KM is that you can almost count on getting a cut somewhere during the fight, but you don't have to give up because of that. Most often you don't die after one stab, you will lose lots of blood and your brain is not gonna work * good as usual, but you have a few seconds before you loose that much blood and it gives you a few seconds too winn and get away. Delta1: how much KM have you seen and how experienced were those guys? Have you tried the system for a longer period or just a seminar or two? I just would like to know, because I've heard many guy trashtalking KM and when you ask them how much they really know they only seen it one or twice. I have a good example from the loockerroom after practice two weeks ago. The were this big guy that came up to me and afew friends from my practice group. He said that in Shootfighting ( he was a shootfighter since 6 month back it turned out) they had a headlock that he belived that noone could get out of. I told him that it wouldn't be a problem get out of his headlock. I told him try it on me, well so he did. He held it pretty tight and I slowely raised my hands and put my fingertip lightly on his eyes, that losened up his grip and I could step out of it. Just so that you know, I did this in slowmotion and it still worked. I asked him what he would have liked it if I did it in full speed and realy pooked his eyes. His reply was: In our sport you are not allowed to pooke someone in the eyes. And he admitted that it worked pretty damn good. Not that this realy brings anything to this topik but it shows how much faith some people have to their own art. I'm not saying that KM is the greatest thing on earth, but it's a system I belive in and it fits my needs.

  8. Hi there all of you I'm new here. I know that there are people that likes KM and the once that don't. I started my KM training in the army, without knowing what is was. We got trained in combat fighting and I later found out that it was KM we was thaught. KM is a system that is based on natural reactions such as if you get a puch to your head you put your hand up aginst your head to protct it. The only diffrence is that you hold it further from your head, so that you stop the punch before it hits you. If you get attact my a knife, you still use the same block. What I try to say is that it is a simple system with as few technices as possible against as many attacks as possible. As someone said earlier, it's some kind of mixed MA. Yes it is, it's a system that are put together by many diffrent styles, it has it's roots in the real world mostely the world of war and anger in Israel. I have been to seminars with Eyal Yanilov, Amnon Darsa and even Amir Perets, they are all very good Instructors and the all have a real life background that has involved fighting. Someone said that it might be a good system only if you are not going to study it no longer than 5 years. I would say that's not true. As longer you practice the better you will get. The system is build so that the first thing you will be taught is the most common attacks, as longer you study the art, the more uncommon attacks you will be faceing. We work alot with dealing with stress and how to use it. if you don't and you get in the position that you are attacked on the street, there are to big of a risk that you will freeze. We all know that isn't a good thing. I'm not telling you all to pick up Krav Maga, I bet all your technics are good as long as it fits you. By the way, we don't turn the situation into our fight because we want to kick the * out of someone, we might do it some times to get away as safe as possible. In a selfdefence situation the are no rules, it's ok to bite, pinch, poke an eye and kick your opponent inte groin. As long as it takes you out of the situation alive and not dead.
