The neighbourhood bad boy doesn't need to fight, it's enough to act tough. Most of the times people get scared by just using threats. I don't know what kids used to be taught but I doubt there are many kids who walked away from fights and walked proudly next day in school. Size and height may not always mean a good fighter but the chances are that the big guy is a lot stronger than you and lets face it, the opponent would probably be scared of him and would think that he was gonna lose the fight. - Musse

Why some MA people get beat in real fights
Musse replied to craknek's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yup, that's why I quitted Shotokan. We only did light point sparring and only certain (ineffective) techniques could score points. How can you learn how to fight if you only touch your opponent and then pull your punch? Also when you sparred, you didn't put much effort defending because you wouldn't get hurt even if your opponent succeeds. - Musse -
Yup, the Trailer is great, seen it 100 times. I just hope that the movie won't disappoint me and they'll make this movie dark. EP1 was too childish and happy, can't even remember EP2. I should look at it again but I can remember that it wasn't as childish as EP1 though. "Twisted by the dark side young Skywalker have become" - Musse

CompactDinnerFork, don't start every word with a capital, it's really hard to read. And yeah, you're not the teacher, you just help in class so I wouldn't think it would be your problem if someone isn't interested. And I can't even understand why someone would be there if he has no intrest, except if they are kids and their parents forced them. Anyway, a slap to the face always gets the attention. - Musse

Are you saying that you punch as hard as you can in your Shotokan dojo ? - Musse

http://www.tvtome.com/StargateAtlantis/ Basicly it's about a new crew, in a new galaxy, fighting new enemies - Musse

I agree, red roses should be banned for 14th of february, just like in Saudi Arabia ! - Musse

Yeah, Stargate is great. I just have watched couple of episodes of series 8 though, because I find Stargate: Atlantis more interesting. Damn Goulds are nothing compared to the Wraith. Series 2 of Atlantis starts in the summer, woo, let's hope it's gonna be good. - Musse

True, but it's one level closer to the real thing than point sparring. - Musse

I remember reading one interview about Parker and he said that Lee's advantage was his speed and he would get you if you made one mistake etc. So I would assume that Lee was faster. - Musse

There's something fishy going on at the West Wind dojo!
Musse replied to Beka's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Looks like the fat guy got himself a good business. Anyhuu, you can't really say that because he's rich, the dojo is bad. The little man isn't always better. - Musse -
It's saturday, I could've practised the whole day. What I'm trying to say is that you don't need to go to Siperia to train often. Why not train in your backgarden "all day every day"? And anyway, how long could you last in a secluded place, all by yourself, with just the bare necessities ? A day ? Two days ? Week ? - Musse

I don't know about this forums view of warez ("I didn't know you couldn't do that officer") but you'll find a lot MMA fighting in DC++. You just have to be in the right hubs ( https://www.hublist.org ). - Musse

Next summer, rent a cabin or live in a tent in the middle of nowhere, just you and the birds. After your holiday is over report back to us about your new spiritual awakening. I'll rent a cabin aswell, but I'm going to be there with a bunch of friends and there's going to be a nice female group in the neighbouring cabin - Musse

What do I say when given a compliment?
Musse replied to senna_trem's topic in Instructors and School Owners
"You ain't seen nothing yet" Seriously, osu is fine. That's what everybody in my dojo use in that situation. - Musse -
I don't think the readers will care about the name of the style. Just make sure that the story is good, which isn't very impressive now. "Some dude beats other dudes with his AWESOME ninjamoves" I bet it would make a great action movie, but a book? Well, add a little pictures and it would be a great kids book Anyway, if you make up your own style, nobody can correct you about how this and that style doesn't use this or that technique etc. etc. etc. etc. - Musse

Importance of Web Presence for MA Schools
Musse replied to pressureguy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Imagine how diffucult it would be to find a school without google You would have to look from the yellow pages and the only information you would get would be "karate school, call 9201494109". I can't believe how people can be oppose to MA websites, that's just plain stupid. - Musse -
I don't know if this has been posted before but anyways, http://selectsmart.com/FREE/select.php?client=martialarts I got : 1. Shotokan Karate 2. Kick Boxing 3. Tae-Kwon-Do 4. Jeet Kune Do 5. Jujutsu (german style) I do Shotokan Karate so it appears that I chose my art correctly - Musse

A instructor doesn't have to be as fast or as strong as the student. He only has to know the way you do the techniques, strategy and so on. Look at all the sport coaches. They can't dribble the ball or shoot it as good as his players, but still I don't see any 25 year old NBA coaches. Of course this is only true when your instructor is old and physically limited. If my instructor was 30 and overweight (by this I don't mean couple of kilos extra, I mean FAT)/weak I wouldn't take him seriously. - Musse

I've been doing Shotokan for about a month and a half and I gotta say that this point sparring/light sparring etc. is annoying as heck. I mean, what's the point of just touching the opponent lightly ? I've read all the excuses for point sparring and I'm not impressed :/ And no, light contact isn't just for beginners, even the black belts do this type of sparring, although I can't say how they spar in advanced class's but I doubt that they'll go full on. I mean I like the class and the techniques but the sparring is just...I'm a frustrated teenager and punching somebody in the face with full force twice a week would really do me some good. - Musse

Bush got re-elected, too bad. I guess America's foreign politics would still be the same, democrat or a rebublican. The funniest thing was Kerry's speech, I laughed my * out when he said, "Whoever wins, we can wake up and we are still americans...and that is the greatest privilige in the world" And the end, as spectacular as ever, "God bless America." I think the best thing about re-electing Bush is that we still have some humour in six o'clock news. - Don't take it too seriously - - Musse
