Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. As far as the price goes, I only have to pay for my own food. I believe my instructor is able to bring two people of his choice. Maybe he only has to pay for himself and the two people he chooses to bring get in for free. My instructor is also covering the hotel costs. It's very nice of him. I think the price for the whole seminar is $299. Good thing I only have to pay for food.
  2. I think it is basically going to be a 2 day seminar and no I do not think it is style specific. If you would like to know what topics are going to be covered at the seminar, check https://www.unitedprofessionals.com Maybe this will answer your questions.
  3. Hey, are any of you guys going to the instructor college in Knoxville, TN on April 15th and 16th. I'm probably going to go with my instructor. I think it will be a lot of fun.
  4. Hey guys, Do any of you instructors teach the XMA curriculum at your school?
  5. Hey Harmony, I also have the 2005 century product catalog but their purple and green uniforms are under the custom services. Am I able to buy just one of their custom uniforms and do you know how much they cost? If so please tell me. Thanks
  6. hey guys, does anyone know where I can get a green or purple uniform? or is there any way I could just dye a white gi with it looking good and the dye not coming off? thanks
  7. Have any of you guys heard of this? I think it is going to be a discovery channel series that airs in july where Roland Osbourne hosts. I think it is supposed to talk about styles from different countries such as tae kwon do, aikido, and brazilian jiu-jitsu. If you have any more info could you tell me? thanks

    creative kata

Hey guys, I'm wanting to think of a creative kata and I could use some help. I would like it to be pretty fast with a little bit of flash. Most of my katas are in an "I" shape. Also, could you give me some tips on doing a butterfly twist? I can jump fairly high and I can easily spin in the air, but I need some tips on getting my body parallel to the ground. Thanks
  9. Thanks for the reply Maddwraph, Sorry if I'm bothering you with all these questions, but capoeira seems like such a cool art. Could you give me some tips on doing an au batido? Also, could you tell me some techniques that come from handstands, cart-wheels, or round-offs. I can do these things, so techniques that come from them might be easier for me to learn. thanks
  10. Hey Maddwraph, Thanks for the post. Again, I have another question. How do you play those capoeira games and how do you score in them? Is it like point sparring where you lightly hit your opponent to score? Also, are these the same type of techniques you see in XMA? thanks
  11. Hey Maddwraph, Could you explain to me the differences in the esquivas you named? Also, what is the most difficult thing you have to do in that style whether it's a certain technique or something mental? What is the coolest technique you've learned so far? I'd also like to know some other unique aspects of capoeira. Thanks
  12. I have another question. Do capoeiraists have an official uniform like karate or kung fu. If so, can you give me a link to where I can see a picture of it? thanks
  13. Hey guys, I am probably going to get my black belt soon and when I do I can wear just about any uniform. Do any of you know a website where I can buy a short sleeve gi. I don't really like the long sleeves but I don't want one of those sleeveless gis. So does any one know where I can get a gi with about 1/2 lengh sleeves? thanks
  14. Thanks for the replies so far. I have another question though. I think the first video (in a series of Capoeira videos I saw) covers things called "ginga" and "esquivas". Could you tell me what these things are? Thanks
  15. Besides the history, what can you tell me about capoeira? I don't think there are any capoeira schools near me so I may buy some instructional videos. Do you think it's a solid style or mainly for fun and show. And if I do learn some of those more advanced techniques from videos, do you think they could be incorporated into sparring (and I do mean sparring, not a real street fight)? Thanks
