White Belt (1/10)

  1. I have done a good deal of boxing and I must agree with the comment made about the development of a small, but ingrained repertoire. Boxers are agile, fast and can take punches a lot better than the average martial artist. They also parrie and cover up vital areas very well; have you ever tried landing a technique on a boxer and missed? if so you're not alone. The simplicity of this discipline allows for quick and powerful attacks without having to struggle with the complexities of martial arts. Their techniques are easy, but when u add unmatched speed and power to them, they are deadly. Like my Sensei in Goju would always say, you could spend your whole life practicing just the basics and never quite master them, but one who is extremely adept at a single basic punch, is a most formiddable opponent.
  2. Martial Arts is a term open to a wide array of interpretations. I see it as category in which we intertwine our notions of mind, body and spirit.
  3. I like to ponder strategy when it comes to martial arts. But how do u strategize for unpredictable situations? I often attempt to find the quickest, most direct, dependable way to protect myself in a fight. For instance, the infamous kick to the knee cap will win u a fight 50% of the time if your timing, aim, and technique is practiced enough. Does anybody have anything else in their bag of tricks?
  4. What exactly are the rules of this contest? Do they go for points or are they looking to disable each other. In my experience, nobody is allowed to kick in the head in a points match. If the idea is to disable, then they'd better hope I don't join in next time. How do you arrange a fighting contest with rules at all, and expect it to make one more prepared for real fighting? I'm not cocky here, just testing my beliefs.
