  1. anyone ever heard of it? how is it? i planned on going to sor vorapin but i think pattaya might be better than bangkok. i don't even know if sor vorapin has western style shitters. i'm leaving saturday morning at 8 and i'll be stopping in thailand for 10 days on my way to china.
  2. ok discoz i'll look into that. ben martin, do you know anyone else who's been to that camp?
  3. I just wanted to bring this thread back up. and thanks to the people who answered the first time. what do you think about these? so far i like the first two the most. the first one is the cheapest and it looks pretty good but i don't know about living in chiang mai. it seems like it's right in the middle of the jungle and i'd be too nervous about malaria and other parasites... i originally said 4 months but i think that would be too long. 2 or 3 might be better. how do you think the average person would be after going to one of those camps for 2 or 3 months? they seem more for foreigners than people who are really serious about muay thai. i http://www.lannamuaythai.com/ http://www.rawaimuaythai.com/index_muaythai.html http://www.bestmuaythai.com/ http://www.thaiboxings.com http://www.mightyoak.co.uk/sasiprapa/site/aboutus.htm http://www.rawaimuaythai.com/index_muaythai.html
  4. I've been reading that muay thai is one of the best martial arts for street fighting and i don't disagree or anything but it just seems like it would be hard to use during a fight. i saw a fight a few weeks ago with 2 groups of 2 people fighting each other. it was like the kids were just swinging their arms wildly as fast as they could and hoping they would hit the other person... it was pretty sloppy but it still looked like it would be pretty hard to fight someone like that. what i'm wondering is if someone was coming at me like that, would i be able to get in there to knee them, elbow them, or get in the clinch (not sure if that's what it's called but it's when u kind of tangle up with them)? I still want to go to thailand for a few months and pick up a little muay thai; it doesn't really matter if it will make me better at fighting or not but i'm just wondering.
  5. I don't really have any experience in martial arts but I want to start doing Muay Thai. I found this school in Phuket, Thailand that looks pretty good. http://www.martialartsphuket.com I would be doing this program once or twice a day, 6 days a week: Beginners Training Program (Average duration 2.5 hrs) 1.Warm -up : 15 minutes of upper & lower body Stretching ,10 minutes Skipping rope (sounds easy but it’s not!) 2.Bag Work : 3 x 3 minute rounds of Kicks & Punches, focusing on correct Technique (supervised by the instructor) 3.In The Ring : 3 x 3 minute rounds of Technique, 3 x 3 minute rounds of light Sparring (both sessions with Instructor) 4.Endurance : 20 - 30 minutes of strength -building using free weights and gym equipment. 100 Sit-ups and /or more Skipping 30 minute run over a 6km-12km distance (optional) I planned on going for 4 months but, if I do, I won't be able to take classes in the summer to make up for the semester of college I'll be taking off.(For a few months in Rio de Janeiro, not just Muay Thai). I might just go for 2 instead. How big of a difference should the extra 2 months make? Also, I'm in good shape but I'm not really quick or really flexible. Should Muay Thai help me with that? Should it help me if I want to get into boxing too?
  6. I've been wanting to get into some kind of martial arts and Muay Thai seems like the best for me because it seems similar to street fighting. I'm 5'7'', 147 pounds and I don't have any experience in any kind of martial arts. I've been looking into a school in Thailand- http://www.martialartsphuket.com They do up to 6 hours a day of training, 6 days a week. If I go, I plan on staying for 4 months. I go to the gym a few times a week and I'm in pretty decent shape. Would I be able to handle the training if it's pretty intense? One of the reasons I started to get interested in Muay Thai is the hard training. I like the idea of pushing myself for a purpose, not just to look better. I don't want to be pushing myself so hard that I can't walk and start to piss blood though. After the 4 months, will I be ready to fight other beginners? How should I do against people who aren't Muay Thai fighters? (I know it's different for every person) I'm not a tough guy, just a normal kid, but it should help at least a little bit in street fights, right? Also, at 147 pounds, what weight class would I be in? What do you all think about the school? http://www.martialartsphuket.com It would come out to around $365 a month... pretty cheap.
