White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. If anyone is interested here's a link to a Bruce Tegner website. http://www.geocities.com/brucetegnersociety/
  2. chiflow: The easyest way to see and learn about the Bruce Tegner version of jukado would be to buy one of, or pick up from a library a copy of Bruce's book, " Jukado, Beginner to black belt" It will pretty much explain our style of jukado.
  3. chiflow: I'm sorry, but I'm not at all familiar with Terry Suyom Mayers, Or the school in Maine, But if you run a search on the jukado name you'll see that it was being used by Bruce Tegner in the mid 1960's. I got my black belt in jukado self defense in 1966, I've seen the Maine schools website, and the school sounds good, I don't know if these folks trained with Bruce or if this version of jukado was just a parallel martial art, But if your happy with it, more power to you.
  4. Whitestar: Jukado is Bruce Tegner's attempt to have a system of belt rankings/motivation for those who did not want to study any of the non essentials of self-defense, The techniques are the same as in any system of effective s/d, I saw in another post you were looking for an effective s/d system, Jukado will qualify, as does ww2 hand to hand, The main difference is jukado emphasis's the lower level of attacks, non violent and violent, how to stop and control your attacker, What I would like to say is what most people are likely to face, while HTH emphases the more deadly types of attackers, where you are justified in killing or just totally messing up your attacker. Among the best in HTH is Carl Cestari, Mr Cestari has tapes available on battlefield forum.
  5. First : As far as the dirty dozen and Steven Segal, Segal said some negative things about Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee, Both friends of Bob Wall and Bob took exception to his remarks, So Bob stated he knew a dozen guys who could kick Segal's tail, Second, Bill Wallace was the best kicker in karate, There were some who could kick air, or bags better, But for the ability to kick a resisting opponent, No one has ever kicked better then Bill Wallace, I had the opportunity to spar Bill a couple of times in tag sparring, and despite knowing what he was going to do the only effective defense I had against his kicks was to beat the heck out of his left foot with my face.
  6. CloudDragon: I started with Bruce in 1959, when i was just 15, And Bruce was as close to a father figure as i ever had so I'm prejudiced. Bruce as an instructor was somewhat lay back, Bruce made sure the classes were fun, and were geared to the average person, not the competition athlete, or the martial arts fanatic. There were a few of his students who trained hard, but for the most part the classes were done at an easy pace, the emphases was on learning, not working out until you couldn't breath, after class we were encouraged to stay and practice for at least one hour. At this point those who wanted to train harder could do so.
  7. Italian_guy: Jukado was Bruce Tegner's method of setting up a belt/rank system for those who just wanted to train in self-defense, Those with no interest in ether the sport or arts. Jukado is named for the three major methods used to develop this system, JU-do, KA-rate, aiki-DO, What Bruce did was take the old jiu-jitsu belt tests and modernizing the attacks, instead of a karate stepping lunge punch, the attacker throws a street sucker punch, Instead of a sword attack, you have a knife attack to defend against. Since this was for only self-defense training, there were no kata's or advanced sport techniques,
  8. My name is bob rosenbaum, i started martial arts in 1959 with Bruce Tegner and earned a black belt in jukado self defense teaching in 1966, after Bruce retired in 1967 i learned from Joe Lewis, Mike Stone, Howard Jackson and his boxing trainer Julio Flores, I've also trained with Steve Fisher, and Manny Johnston and many others, and through the years I've done my best to beat up their hands and feet with my face. my emphases is on self-defense, and fighting, both sport and reality. i currently work security at a casino, and as far as martial arts am semi retired.
