Tekke Shodan and Sienchin. (I'm pretty sure I spelled both of those wrong.)
-
Some dojos have rules against wearing black gi's unless your a black belt. Because if that wasn't the case, I would have gotten a black one when I started. And welcome to the board.
-
My favorites are Seinchin, and Bassai-dai. And my second favorite is the second effort of kwan kong chun kwan. (I'm 100% that that's spelled wrong.) But that kata is strictly a Kwanmukan kata.

Whats your favourite stance , Why?

Kiba-dachi. It's the most normal for me. Considering the game of basketball is baiscally played in kiba, and I am a basketball player, it's what I'm use to. -
Martial Arts in the public school system.
XxpengwynxX replied to manuelito's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
You take Martial Arts. Is the only thing you want to do is fight? And if no, why not?No. Because I have nothing worth fighting over. I was refering to the people in my school who get into these huge fights over the littlest things. -
Do you happen to have one of the kata sienchin?

Hehe. That no shoes part is true. I own like a million pairs of shoes, and don't wear any of them if I don't have to.

Martial Arts in the public school system.

Yea. Good luck trying to get that message across to the kids I go to school with. It's not gonna happen. Again, I can't speak for everyone. But I have my ideas about things, and it would be near impossible to change my mind about them. Same as for other teenagers. We're stubborn. It's in our nature. If kids think all that MA is, is about fighting. That's what they're going to keep on thinking, even once they learn it. I just think it would be a bad idea. If all certain people want to do is fight. I wouldn't like them to be able to fight good. -
There are some Shotokan Kata videos here: http://www.unh.edu/shotokan/kata.html

Martial Arts in the public school system.

Alright. I can't speak for all public school systems, but I can speak for my high school. And I think it would be a horrible idea. We have so many fights in are school as it is. And I'm thinkin' these kids wouldn't use the idea of MA to stay out of fights, they would use it as a way to train how to hurt their opponent even more. Espically when the fights start over nothing. Like last year, a fight broke out in the middle of the commons during lunch when some kid threw a chicken finger at some one else. And I personally would not like to have seen the fight if they both knew how to break some one's wrist, 5 different ways. -
I'm not sure what you call it. It's one of those really long buildings, where it's divided up into a bunch of different stores... But it's moving to it's own building. Gonna be twice the size it is now. XD

Hehe. I vote pink. XD But yea, in reality, I would like black pants and white gi top, with the black on teh edges. I was at a compitition once, and there was this girl there who had a bright purple and yellow gi. It was awesome. XD

memorable moments
XxpengwynxX replied to DD's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Hm. My most memorable moment for a tourney. Was my very first tournement. It was a small inter-dojo tourney. I was an orange belt, and I was sparring a blue belt. And we both did a jump kick, at the exact same time. (This is where all serious-ness in the match just died.) We clashed legs and we both fell down, and 2 of my teachers were there and they were watching, since it was a small tourney only 2 matches were going on at the same time, and they both started laughing, and then me and the girl I was fighting started laughing....yea...it was pretty bad. -
Lesse. It's actually pretty warm today. It's 62*F. Kinda cloudy. But it's not windy or rainy. So it's all around pretty good.

Mashed Potatoes. Macaroni Salad. Fetichini alfredo. Chicken Tariyaki(sp?). Pickles. Munster Cheese. Sbarro's Pizza (It's the greatest Pizza ever!!).

The Romones- Basically anything by them is awsome. In my opinion. Basically I'd recomend anything before the 80's. Nothing specific though. Oh, and I love Garth Brooks and Joe Diffy, I'd defidently recomend them if you can tolerate country.

When I first started I remember that Heian Nidan took me the longest time in the world to remember. And I hated it. They taught katas by halfs. So you learn one half, then the other half. But that wasn't working for me. So it took me forever. But once I learned a few katas, I could learn the rest that have the same basic pattern, (Like all the Heian Katas) pretty easily. But then I got to Tekke Shodan, and it was completly different. The teacher who taught me Tekke, taught it a bit different. She did one step at a time. She'd show us the step, tell us exactly what we were doing, and how we were being attacked. Usually a teacher won't tell you all of that until you know the kata, so you don't get horribly confused. But she'd do the step and the explination. And make us go back to the begging. Then she'd show us the first 2 steps, give us the explination, and we'd go back to the beginning. Then she'd show us the first 3 steps, and so on. And I think learning the step by step thing worked WAY better for me. So try running thru the kata like that. That way you'll know exactly what comes after what. And when I'm asked to teach a kata to someone. That's how I teach it. Step by step. And once you learn it. Run thru it a handful of times right away, so you don't forget it. Remember:: I do that. But back words. I'll be doing Heian Godan, and finish it as Bassai dai. So I'm glad I'm not the only one. But it's bad because in 1 day, I'll be doing Godan at nationals. Okay. Off topic again. Ack.

motivation for starting martial arts
XxpengwynxX replied to kle1n's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
When I was 12 I took a self defence class at a karate school with Girl Scouts. And I loved it. At the time I played basketball, softball, volleyball, and I had played basiclly every sport there was offered around me. But I liked this one class better than all of it. I went home that night and tried to convice my mom to let me join. But she wouldn't. When my brother was 12 he wanted to join. She let him. So about 6 months later (After basketball season was over.) I asked again if I would be allowed to. Still she wouldn't let me. So I started using the defense "It's because I'm a girl isn't it" so then she had to let me join. So all in all I think I got into it just for the sport of it. But I absolutly love it now. -
My style is Kwanmukan karate. It's a mix of karate, judo, ju-jitsu, and kubodo(Spelled wrong.) Breaking? As in boards? There are special seminars and events where you break boards. But it's not a part of every day class. We use low, high, spinning, and jumping kicks all in kata, and ipons. (Ipons. Aka. Ipon kumite. Are just ways to practice techniques that flow together well.) In sparring, low kicks are illegal though, and spinning and jumping kicks are not recommended unless you can do them very well, because there's a good chance you will be taken down, if you don't do them fast, and almost perfectly. or special techniques? We can learn bo, nunchuku, sai, tonfa, and i think there might be like 2 more. We can start learning the bo at blue belt. Nunchuku at green. And Sai & tonfa at purple.
