Wow im suprised at how many replies ive been getting for this topic...Argg he(Dillman) keeps that stupid Dim Mak fairy tale alive which im starting to really get annoyed with. Plus Bloodsport(Real Bad Movie) keeps making that myth mainstream which is extremly damaging which those who've seen the movie run to Dillmans class like blind sheep
-
Well i do Shotokan but we have katas from other Karate styles in our school..We have(from what i remember) ShihoHai and Niseishi Sho(are taught at orange belt) Sanchin(taught at red belt) a version of Taikyoku(taught at purple) and a kata i dont know much about called Shuta ru..plus all the standard shotokan katas
-
Well we had a neat Kata drill last class..We started doing the Kata(for whatever level) with isometric breathing with power in the moves then we did it fast and quick then we did it with no power and stepping into the moves very carefully....either way we did it i think everyones kata improved greatly

Being hard on yourself... good or bad?
Samurai Shotokan replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah im the same way..even though im a green belt and all i get frustrarated that i cant get Heian Godan down but when the Sensei or Shihan come around i rarely get corrected even though he/she corrects everyone but me..but that could be because i practised in front of a mirror consantly or maybe im doing better than i think i am -
XMA special
Samurai Shotokan replied to Goju_boi's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Umm sorry i cant suply a video or a site because its against this sites rules. What really burns me is they called Matt a tradionalist but almost everything he did was a free form. When he was about to do his traditional kata i thought it would be something adavanced like Empi or Bassai Dai or anything like that but maybe 90% of the vewiers want to see a form where they flip almost the entire form and do 540s ect.I have nothing agianst Shorei-Ryu.I just wish they showed the actual Shorei Ryu not the Flashy stuff -
XMA special
Samurai Shotokan replied to Goju_boi's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Yeah that Special did more harm than good ....When i was at my friends yesterday he had his computer hooked up to the TV and we were watching random video and we stumbled across that 10 year old BB doing a free form and a guy who i cant remember doing flips for the majority of the video...and they thought that guy who did the flips was an awesome MA but he may of did 3 kicks in the entire thing..and the kid did some form with lots of bo staff spinning but the kidf was a BB so he must equal deadly -
Yeah I hate this you know why? well thats been said but It Grinds my Gears when i hear some six years old got his black in less than a year. That sort of stuff gets on my nerves.I wish i could find and post the pic of a sensei giving a kid a black belt with words overlayed saying "congratulations,Your moms check just cleared!"

Sorry for not replying in awhile i didnt think i would get this many replies so soon Sorry i cant seem to get the video though. Back on topic. This is why i dont like theses No touck KO's because they ONLY works on Dillman Students and other affiliates and thats about it O and if you saw the video he also claims to of taught Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali(also on his website) mostly likely as a Hook and Sinker method look here http://www.dillman.com/about.asp

Im sorry if some of this had been said before but i need to get this stuff out of my system.I was recently watching George Dillman on National Geographic over on the FightingArts Forum and it made me sick! Why are there so many people trying to sell bogus stuff and pass it off as Martial Arts.Does Dillman actually teach Karate anymore or does he just put on a magic show for seminar attendees. The worse part of that is when he had his 13 year old kid making a chi ball.It was very sad because when that kid gets to high school and maybe they do wrestling in gym and he get beaten badly he'll wonder why his No Touch KO didnt work. Also after the Skeptic was tested he made a complelty stupid excuse why it didnt work. I guess people like this seminars because they rather use a no touch KO rather than do put the work in to be a martial arts

Question about the Horse Stance
Samurai Shotokan replied to Samurai Shotokan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thanks for your replies guys.I guess learning stances is like learning to walk before you can run. -
So anyone like Mystery Science Theatre 3000 here?.Some of my favourite episodes are Puma Man,Diabolik,Squirm,Jack Frost and many more. Here is a brief description for those who havent heard of it A man and two robots trapped on an Earth-orbiting space station are forced to watch the worst movies ever conceived
-
My question why is this stance so unversal?? Because almost every Martial art to a degree uses this stance Wrestlers(Greco Roman) Sumo, varous Kung Fu and Karate syles Even though this stance is varied differently from style to stlye but in essance there the same stance

Although im a Shotokan practioner.I would like to learn Yantsu if i could
