  1. Mu Ryuk, Do you only practice one Bassai form? or both Bassai So and Bassai Dae?
  2. 80$? More than I pay, but I have heard some prices like 150 $ a month which seems kinda crazy.
  3. I don't think that is an issue, I mean, jsut b/c it was metal does mean it was expensive. They had metal, they weren't in the stone age.
  4. Actually, it makes sense for sais to be made of metal. Usually carts had some kind of piece that bound a front and backcart piece together, which had to be stronger than the cart, which was wood. a good sai technique? open it to parry a thrust and then jab it into their arm.
  5. I paid 300 I think for my 1st Dan maybe 350... But most organizations have some flat fee to pay to the organization then the instructor may charge what he or she wishes. Money... what an interestingly painful concept.
  6. It is great to see the turn out and the replies from all the artists. Keep posting guys and gals. Keep asking questions. For example, who knows Pat Johnson and what his contribution to our art is?
  7. Well if you are looking for a traditional Korean Art, I suppose Tang Soo Do would be great. lol. It is a great art, really. you Muay Thai can only accentuate your training in Tang Soo Do's strikes, but you will find it versitility too.
  8. -hoagie/sub/zeps/ poorboys/grinders sales -Movie Nights ( play a movie on a big screen/ wall with pop and snacks for like 2-3 bucks a head, but really only good with little kids) -Tag Days with a nice little kid demo team (if applicable)
  9. 10 years and 9 months Tang Soo Do Yes kata, 1-steps, self-defense techniques & maneuvers. Not Applicable Yes Yes, such information has been provided in our handbooks. The repetition of basic techniques is mention a number of times in numberous ways in the 14 attitudes required to master tang soo do, and the points on physical mental and spiritual development. In Mastering Tang Soo Do, one, thus, in turn, has mastered the selfdefense, the philosphy, the art forms included in the system art.
  10. In meditation, the idea is not to ignore all thought, but to exhaust all thought so that the only possible solution is to think nothing (not think of nothing b/c that is something, think nothing). As ideas pop into your head, think about them, understand them, and move on as your find and exhaust each thought. We use meditation to clear the mind, to clear the mind, you must know what is in the way, and the to do that is to think the thoughts in your head until they are thought out. (until they are thunk, lol)
  11. If you want decent quality, $3000-$5000, easy, order from like Japan or Korea. Why do they cost that much? Proper balancing and full tangs (the tang is the part fo the sword in the handle, if anyone doesn't know that term). Plus, the strength of the blad itself, not just the sharpness. The material put into it is relatively cheap, it is forging the sword that is the art form.
  12. Jlee, to answer directly. No, it isn't all legs/prettymuch all legs. It is far more balanced than TKD in that aspect.
  13. Does anyone here practice an art, or are highly proficient with Twin/double/weilding two Swords?
  14. I agree with you TangSooGuy. People say that it is pointless to do that, but I feel it is important to understand the devestating ability of many of those combinations.
  15. Can anyone talk about the type of movements involved in Tai Chi Chuan. I have heard it spoken of as a soft art alot, but also reading things that make it seem like it contains more of harder aspects of a martial art. can anyone enlighten me?
  16. Any Practicioners of the Grand Ultimate Fist? (right on the translation?) I am interested in its techniques and philosphy.
  17. This is awesome, I am glad to see how alive the art is everywhere. We have been tlking about just forms for a while, but I would like to invite the sharing of other aspects. Who here practices Il Soo Sik and Ho Sin Sul, and how many of each what kinds? I, for example, practice 1-15 hand combination 1 steps, 1-12 foot combination 1 steps for gup and then 1-9 hand foot combo 1 steps for red belt (Il Soo Sik, meaning for hand attacks on a single oppoennet, not a string of walking combinations) 9 1st Dan 3 step il soo sik 9 2nd/3rd dan 1 step I also have 1-15 gup hand self defence (Ho Sin Sul: joint manipulation/ braeakaways) and an additional number of variations for different parts of the body and a few red and blackbelt level techniques.
  18. So no one else practices the fourth and fifth kicho hyung? interesting. lol. The Korean Kicking Kata, I saw that once, it is realy interesting... I wil list the other 2 3rd Dan forms. the first two are yuk ryo 3 and Koon Sang Kong Dae, the others are Sei Sean and Koon Sang Kong So. like I said there are more... The Saek Ye hyung... I am familiar with those they are like the kicho, but with kicking, right? Any one else practice both Bassai forms? Dae and So?
  19. Ok, now that we have a few people. What forms do you all practice? Both Weapons and Hand forms. I practice.... (let me hope I get them all.)(also, these are only those which I have completed so far in my trainig, we are taught more later): Kicho 1-5 Pyn Ahn 1-5 Chil Son Il Lo Bassai So Bassai Dae Naihanchi 1-3 Yuk Ryo 1-3 Sip Soo Jin To Lo Hai Koon Sang Kong Dae Sam Gee Chung (Sai) 1 and 2 E Jool Bong (nunchuck) 1-4 Bong (Bo)1-4 Dan Gum (knife) 1 and 2 Tan Bong 1 and 2 Ssang Bong 1 Sword 1 and 2 Cane 1 and 2 ... and these two are in addition to normal training. Chang Bong (Spear) Choon Bong (Jo) 1 EDIT: O sorry. I study Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do as part of the Asia Tang Soo Do Federation which is also in the World Tang Soo Do Union under GM Seong Kee Kim.
  20. Bruce Lee, hands down. lol However, Jackie Chan, is AWESOME and charistmatic, and just awesome. Chuck Norris, simply amazing and hardcore. The only foreigner considered to be really great at Tang Soo Do by a lot of koreans. Jet Li, personally, I love him, but I think the movies he makes and the roles he plays don't make him as great as he could be, but he is still cool. **Donnie Yeun, So underrated, so unnnoticed, so cool, so good and awesome skills. Steven Segal: Repetitive roles, but I love watching him all the same. and that mountain dew commercial kicked butt! I thought it was hilarious... most of my friends don't get it, but I did. lol. Jean Claude Van Damne.. Actually I like his movies, but I dont know how great of a martial artitst he is.
  21. My staffs are short, mostly b/c I had them from when I was younger, but I have one piece of bamboo that is 6' (just slightly shorter than I) That i use for both bo and spear. The Bo is your height The Jo is the height of about your belly button The Spear is your bo height with a spear head on top, maybe a lil longer.
  22. Who are the Tang Soo Do practioners here? List your rank and location. After we get a few guys posted on here we can compare how our training is and what techniques, as far as il soo sik and ho sin sul go, even what weapons. I am a 3rd Dan from southwestern Pennsylvania, USA, not far from Pittsburgh.
  23. Another note on the ankle weights, no matter what speed, even walking, they are dangerous to your knees.
