Well...some weeks ago i got my first dan....but so far i couldn know what's my result...

With Bunkai you learn alot of grappling techniques...well...it depends also on the kata...for example....recently we are studing the Gangaku applications and there're alot of interesting moves. Anyhow...you can personalize the bunkai.....my teacher accept every variation of the technique...but it has to be realistic.

Well...mortalk kombat is definitely the best one ...a bit supernatural with excessive gore but fun and entertaining. Also the street fighters serie wasn't bad though. -
Yes...and actually i was not sure about 18 or 16 as the minimum age....but with our federation would be reallly impossible to be a second dan in 5 years...
-
Well...second dan in 5 years is really few...specially for a fifteen ager...she's probably a genius or where you live they are not so picky as in Italy. Me, with the same years of training i'm still a brown belt even if my instructor say i've good qualities... By the way...in Italy until you reach 18 you cant test for first dan.
-
Onestly, I dont know if i would be enough prepared in that situation...but since they are years that i throw pounches and kicks...at least I'll try to defend myself against every kind of potential dangers...
-
I spar for the majority of time with men because i'm my dojo there're lack of women. Ive no problem with that though, i'm a tomboy-ish girl.
-
I could test for first dan next September...but due to some recent happenings(my dojo closed down and the other ones I visited were focused on tournements and they were not happy to follow me for the black belt testing ) i'm obliged to do it next year hoping to find a good instructor.......damn i feel like a ronin now... Hey btw...good luck and cold blood(like we say in italy ;D) ! I'm sure you'll do fine.

I love the particular style of MOBY....i think he's a genius...his latest work(Hotel) is a masterpiece!

With kumite you learn how to fight ONE adversary, with kata you train how to handle a more difficult situation...
-
It's sad that often(i say often because i knew very rare people that know the real meaning of martial arts while practicing them) people think to be over everyone when they reach the black belt or practice multiple martial arts. It's really difficult to suggest you a solution because this kind of person hardly change mind......so try to invite him to follow the real philosophy of martial arts by little steps.

yer i see that in a few bruce lee movies but thats probaly because the chinese and japanese werent that good friends back then, in kiss of the dragon jet li takes on a whole room of karate guys .lol I never read a Bruce Lee book...but people who did told me that he considered Karate an useless martial art.........i'm not sure anyway...they are only rumors that can influence people and we know how people are influenced by TV and Movies idols. Me too i met idiots that tried to convince me that i'm wasting my time with Shotokan...but hey...remember that its not the good art itself that make a man great in it...its the man that make the art. So if you have any doubt while practicing karate...think about that.
-
I think this depends alot on the instructor. There are some that like to teach his/her students for the satisfaction to see them do well in torunements and so on.....and there are those who teach karate mostly in a traditional way or at least they try to do it.
-
I haven't been here long time but well...i'm into Shotokan too!
-
Definitely not the case of my instructor. He has an indipendant work...and i heard him frequently saing to people he do it like a hobby.
-
I never admired an instructor for his/her knownledge, yes this's an important factor too..., but rather for their passion and joy of teaching and encouraging the students, even the ones that have big difficulties to learn. My current instructor is GREAT as person...and i think its a very important thing because he can teach you well the spirit and umility of Karate.

Honesty and being yourself...guys that "try" to be nice or act in a particular way to mask their true side are boring.
