White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Tournaments suxors. Forms/kata competitions are the equivilant of dance competitions [curses upon the man who invented musical kata competitions]. I like seminars, though.
  2. I prefer hands. Feet is good, but I suck at anything that goes above the hips, except my side kick. I like low kicks. I also like Gatorade.
  3. I like the idea of Chi. First, I accept the hypothesis that it is a biological energy similar to electricity. Second, it's a darn good visualization technique, and visualization is an awesome tool. I don't see how the concept of this energy in any way conflicts with Christian belief. I've been a Christian for a good little while, haven't seen or heard a thing which shows contradiction, with the exception of religious connotations that chi sometimes has.
  4. In 10 years, hopefully I'll still be working out, doing some karate, some zui quan, and maybe have my own gym. I love frogs.
  5. Good luck on the test. That's actually the one-year anniversary of me testing for my Sho Dan Ho. Again, good luck. And remember: BLOCK YOUR RIBS, OR YOU'LL END UP JUST LIKE ME.
  6. Not so much a versus thread, as a general discussion of the similiarities/differences between the two arts. Leaving the idea of cultural practices aside, what would be some of the similar technical/training methodoligies in these arts? What about differences?
  7. I've got to agree here. I've been down for nearly a year, and I'm probably not going to be back for at least a good 3-4 months. I got injured testing for my shodan. Got a shodan Ho for political reasons, but that's beside the point. Anyway, there are things which stop training. Delta1 explained them a lot better than I could, so I'm just gonna look at his post and say "yeah. that sounds about right."
  8. When I'm in class, I wear just all white. When I'm doing anything outside of class, it's workout pants, an Underarmor shirt, and a t-shirt. That's for lifting, bagwork, and general karate stuff.
  9. Since when did full contact mean full power?
  10. http://store.martialartsmart.net/45353l.html Super cool. once I get training again, and get my training area set up outside (it's gonna be sweet) I'm gonna hafta invest in these. I used to have a pair. Those things friggin rock.[/url]
  11. I'm up to twenty minutes. Then I have to lay down for a while. I'm sure, though, that once I heal up my chest and actually start training again, that time is going to drop back down.
  12. I'm firmly against bowing in martial arts practiced outside of Asia, and really of the inclusion of a culture foreign to the practitioner in official training. I'm not racist, I just think it's a little dishonest to use another culture in this manner. Take, for example, a painter. Though he/she may paint in a fashion/with the same tools as were developed in a foreign land, they usually don't feel it necessary to act with that cultural mindset during the painting process. To be ignorant of the culture which birthed your art is, well, ignorant. But to feel compelled to live through this culture during training is pointless.
