What do you do in the days, and hours leading up to a grading, such that you are in top condition for the grading? Any unusual sleep paterns? Any special dietary considerations? Any superstitions?

Has anyone heard of the Style Bushido ?
stuart replied to Smokey's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This is simply not the case Sensei James Seaward is but one of many highly trained instructors in B.A.M.A. It is not "his" organization, but he is an instructor of it. The fees the instructors charge for the 1-1 tutition are very good value, and I find many of your comments without foundation or cause. -
Do you want a style with "high Jumping kicks"? These aren't really very practical in any application, are you looking to be a movie star?

Hi all. Saw Kill Bill Vol 2 today, excellent! Well enjoyed. However I was wondering if anyone with more martial arts experience than myslef could answer the following. Spoiler Alert!!!! 1. The 3inch punch the Bride uses to escape the coffin? Obviously I now of Bruce Lee's Famous similar technique, but is it really possible to bust through solid wood like pai mai? 2. The 5 fingered pressure point exploding heart technique? is anything like this possible?

We have national gradings 3/4 times a year, it cost £15 for a Kyu grade grading. Their are no re-test fees. I imagine the money goes to, the owners of the hall we use, the Academy, the Sensei's who do the gradings. All of which seems perfectly resonable.

Their are numerous conspiracy theories. I believe the 'official' line is that he suffered a brain aneurysm. Induced by a pain reliever took for a migraine. It is apparently a very rare allergy to the substance that induced the tragic effect.

I study Bushido Karate, but any Karate videos are of interest. Cheers.

Hello. I'm quite new to M.A's and was interested in seeing some M.A videos. I've tried the usual places Google/Yahoo but keep finding old site where the clips dont seem to work. Does anyone know any good sites with video clips of either techniques or Katas. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

I pay £15 per hour for private tution. 1 on 1 with an instructor, I believe the 100% attention of my instructor is worth every penny. With private tution I'm able to get the technique much easier and quicker then I would in a class were Sensei's attention is on 20-30 other people.

I was interested in how many of you study sword within your martial arts?
-
Ours are £30 (I think from memory) for Kyu grades, and I believe £50 for Dan grades. Which I think is resonable plus regrades are free.

Thanks for your comments. The grading itself comprised of a seminar, and an individual grading. For the grading I had to do the kata about 5 times and the Geri Waza about 3 times, the grading panel then called out techniques which I had to perform. I was very nervous on the way, but once the day actually started I just got stuck in and gave my best, my nerves soon shrank. I'm glad to say I passed and very much looking forward to learning our Orange belt syllabus.

Heard that Keanu Reeves was quoted as saying he could 'take' Bruce Lee, don't know how true that is but it would be interesting to see what he picked up while training for the Matrix movies.

B.A.M.A - Bushido Academy of Martial arts. I like it because they believe in 1 on 1 tution rather than large classes.

I read on a website that on average 90% of people who are failed in their grading quit. Is this representative of peoples experience in martial arts?
-
I would agree that Martial Arts are more popular now than at any other time. However I don't think that because their are more Dojo's a greater proportion of these are poor quality "McDojos's" As particular styles expand, and students pass through the ranks and gain sensei status, surely the balance of good/bad Dojo's is sustained.

I am only a novice (white belt) but I am told by my Sensei When doing forward kicks/kin Geri to put my hips into it, to thrust them forward. To do techniques down you centre line, i.e punching through the middle, NOT tramlining. And to remember that in F=Ma (My sensei has a Masters in Physics) Force= Mass x Acceleration. So Your mass is constant, if you through more mass into a technique you will most probably be putting yourself off balance. You can however accelerate, do this upto and past the point of impact in all your punches/kicks and they will be much more powerful than if you have reached maximum speed at the point of impact. Just a couple of concepts I've picked up on in my short time in the martial Arts.

Our classes are an hour long. But due to it being 1-1 tution I think I learn a lot more in that hour than I would if my Sensei's attention was on 20 other students.

I train 1 hour a week in the dojo, and probably another hour during the week at home. I also find myself spending time (Like when driving) mentally visualising the techniques. Thinking what is important to execute said technique correctly. Anyone else do this?
-
In my style (Bushido Academy), we usually only train one on one. On occassion, for say Aikido practice it is usefull to have two students and your Sensei. We find that having just one student per sensei encourages the best standard of technique.

Hello my first grading is coming up soon (Nov) I was wondering what other peoples experiences were. I am a student of B.A.M.A ( Bushido Academy of Martial arts) and have been told to expect to do my Kata (upwards of 10 times), the Geri waza, basic techniques and answer a some questions about the techniques. How does this relate to other peoples first grading? Thanks.
