  1. i was afraid of this..... i said a student was embrassed not me i love my dojo.
  2. there's this guy here in Mass saying he's a 10th dan because he changed a couple of things in the MA Shoalin Kenpo Karate. Now every time he's in a tournment he walks down with he's student being cocky. my sensei beat he alot of times so that's why he doesn't compete. i believe he's belt says "* kicker" or something. G95champ gots a point.
  3. Would you be embrassed of you dojos name? Not that i am but a yellow belt was asking me if i was. I got mad and ask what would be so embrassing about my a dojo's name? He said it looks like we're soft and the reason he asked was because i got the name and logo on the back of my gi top. Because of that remark i punch him in the ribs hard enough to make him think twice about asking things like that (we were sparring). i mean i kno my dojo has a name that others don't have but to me i think it's just a dojo. My dojo's name is Smilin' Mikes Dojo of champions. if you order a gi top and he, by mistake, puts that name on it would you return it because of the name. i think it's stupid to waste his time to pick it up because of the name? i just wanted to share... give some opinions and don't think i'm ashmed of it...
  4. My dojo got simple rules. - Don't hit with all your power - head shots are ok but not to hard - waist above are the targets - thraots shot are not allowed - takedowns but not wrestling - you'll get kick out if you make anybody bleed or break a body part

  6. Cowboy Bebop is better!!!
  7. Shaolin Kenpo Karate Kenpo is considered by many to be the first eclectic martial art. Its origin evolved from Karate which; according to legend, began over a thousand years ago in China. At the beginning of the seventeenth century two families, Kumamoto and Nagasaki brought knowledge of Kenpo from China to Kyushu in Japan. Modified throughout many years into its current form, it is referred to as Kosho-Ryu Kenpo, or Old Pine Tree school. It is from here that most modern forms of Kenpo are derived. According to modern legend, in 1916 at the age of five, James Mitose was sent from his homeland in Hawaii to Kyushu for schooling in his ancestors' art of self-defense called Kosho-Ryu Kenpo. After completing his training in Japan, Mitose returned to Hawaii. Near the beginning of World War II in 1936, Mitose opened the "Official Self-Defense" club in Honolulu. It was from here that the five major Kenpo influences; Thomas Young, William K. S. Chow, Edmund Howe, Arthur Keawe and Paul Yamaguchi would study and bring Kenpo to the rest of the world. William K.S. Chow adapted Mitose's approach and "Americanized" the art. He is perhaps responsible for the largest leap of Kenpo to the general public. In 1949, Chow opened a school of his own at a local YMCA and referred to his art as Kenpo Karate. Edmund K. Parker, who is probably the most famous of Chow's practitioners, began studying Kenpo with Chow at the age of 16. Parker further adapted the methods so that they would prove practical in an actual fight and opened the first commercial Karate studio in 1954. He created a logical organization for the basic Kenpo techniques, dividing them into eight categories, such as stances, blocks, punches and so on. Parker graduated from Brigham Young and moved to California where he opened his second school in 1956 and also founded the International Kenpo Karate Association the same year. Parker taught the martial arts to many actors and celebrities such as Elvis Presley and Steve McQueen. He also appeared in movies and television shows like "I Love Lucy." Grand Master Edmund Parker is the undisputed "Father" of American Kenpo Karate. When Mr. Parker died in December of 1990, the International Kenpo Karate Association went through some major restructuring due in part to political differences, as well as other reasons. Many of the senior students went off to create their own associations and promote their own style of the American Kenpo system. Today Kenpo remains very strong in the martial arts industry.

  10. hands al the way. i think that hands are better because your hands do alot better than your feet. think about it can you lock some one up with your feet/legs faster than your hands/arms?

  12. learning takedowns and sparring alot lately.
  13. i hear if youlift heavy weights and add more and more you buff up, and if you just do more reps on a certain weight level you become more cut.

  19. okay i have had only two butterlfy knifes and just bought a new one. It's big but that's not the problem. the problem is the piece that holds the blade to the handle. it's two pieces ( it sort of has two hamdles). one of them slips out after i open and close the knife like 10 times. it doesn't slip out completely but stciks out. i bang it back in every time, but still sticks out . did any of you guys had this problem before?
  20. your not the only one...
  21. i like sparring. you should do double kicks to fake them out. It different then the dojo, they call hits mad quick.

  23. i'm not a grappling type but learning... i'll do any thing like Jussi Häkkinen said.
  24. A 14 year old 3rd Dan? Dang..I think I have more time in just tying my belt than that kid has been alive! I know there's nothing "wrong" with it..legally..but I'm sorry, I will always have problems with young kids with black belts. And 14 isn't THAT young for a BB, but for a 3rd Dan? I'm sorry...I just can't handle that. I knew a guy in Great Falls, Mt..a self-promoted "Master" of TKD (since deceased) that promoted a 6 year old to black belt. When he told me that, I just shook my head in disbelief. i'm sorry he's 15 and just got he's belt. he been doing Shaolin Kenpo Karate since he was 7, turning 8. He deserves it. I seen him perform and partices everyday. he shows alot of effort.
