White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Hapkido hands down. It teaches you how to disarm an assailant and is vrey violent . It concentrates on joint locks, joint breaks, pressure points, and submission. If they try to continue the attack after being subdued, you start hyper extending and breaking joints . That is if you don't want to choke them out or make them pass out with a pressure point . Ofcourse none of this is necessary if you talk out the problem as best as you can . The above techniques are used as a last resort, when it is you life or theirs .
  2. Listen it is not the style but the artist that determines which is better. For me Hapkido works . It is ever adapting to new kinds of threats and it has so many techniques that anyone can use it and you do not have to be the biggest or strongest person for it to work. Also in South Korea everyone is taught Tae Kwon Do, but the South Korean police use Hapkido for there fighting style. Ask anyone who knows about Hapkido and they will tell you that it is violent . I hope this helped you, but remember nothing is absolute.
  3. X TREME MARTIAL ARTS WAS AN AWESOME SHOW. IT REALLY SHOWED ME HOW FAR I HAVE TO GO . THOSE MARTIAL ARTISTS WERE TRULY AT TOP OF THEIR GAME. I HOPE THEY DO MORE PROGRAMS LIKE THAT IN THE FUTURE.
  4. I HAVE BEEN AWAY FOR A WHILE, SORRY JUST HAD THE BIRTH OF MY BABY DAUGHTER (FUTURE HAPKIDOIST) . IN ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION, THERE IS A WONDERFUL SCHOOL IN HAMPTON,VA(MY SCHOOL ) . IT IS HEADED BY GRANDMASTER JAMES B. LEE NINTH DEGREE BLACKBELT. . IT IS A GREAT SCHOOL. THE INTERNATIONAL HAPKIDO KARATE ASSOCIATION. GIVE IT A CHECK.
  5. To try to answer your question about Hapkido. Yes it does have it's similarities with Aikido, but Hapkido is more aggressive than Aikido. There are so many joint locks, arm bars, throws(from the wrist, clothes, and hip), and defenses from nearly every attack that you can imagine. And it is not Taekwondo with wrist locks. Every technique is designed to break a bone or cause serious pain . There is also a lot of internal arts and healing taught. Becareful when choosing a school, there are places that say Hapkido but they are not. I am fortunate to have a Grandmaster who trained under Young Sol Choi and with Han Ji Jae . Good luck and if you can pick up the book HApkido by Marc Tedeschi. Great book on Hapkido . I almost forgot to mention the pressure points and weapon defenses. I have my first degree black belt and there is nothing like it.
  6. Like the others said I would first step out of the way. Then take advantage of his head being down and grab one of the many pressure points in his neck or shoulders. If I did not put him into a headlock first, apply pressure to his temple and drop to the floor with his face as my cushion. Then I would wrench his neck in the opposite direction that his body was until he tapped . Taking your eyes off your opponent is dangerous no matter how close you are to him.
  7. There are a lot of different defenses other that the wrist. There are defenses from the shoulder, elbow, hair, front of the collar, back of the collar, and bear hugs. Just to name a few. And you are right the defenses are pretty vicious. I am a first degree black belt in Hapkido and I love it . Everyone of the defenses is pretty much designed to break a bone . It is a great style and my school is great because the Grandmaster is a student of Young Sol Choi and Ji Han Jae. If you have any more questions feel free to let me know.
