  1. Hand/wrist locks are dandy and all, but there's nothing like a choke to end it. Plus you don't have to feel guilty about hurting the other person too badly.
  2. Was that the big black guy in the black gi and the white guy(he lost...that was on ufc hits vol. 1 I believe so.
  3. Oh, I wasn't. I often use the super deadly diving crane attack myself, although it's often known by other names.
  4. Anything that stresses the actual physical application of the stuff (whatever it may be) that they teach. Don't be fooled that just kicking pads will prepare you, even though you're using the super deadly diving crane attack.
  5. The word I used is unintelligible. I even posted the definition, and you still missed it. If you try to kick someone in the face from your guard, you first have to bring your leg up towards the center of your body. If the guy is far far away (not really IN your guard) and you miss, that's one thing. But if the person is IN your guard and you have your leg/foot lined up with the center of their body instead of to one side, it makes it much easier to pass. Explain what you mean more and maybe we can learn something, or at least have a meaningful discussion about it.
  6. I dl'ed the vid of the kimbo gannon thing. That is really really messed up. Kimbo got knocked out like three seperate times in the end. There was no ref... the crowd did the counting, and they counted to like 35, then he stood up and got knocked down/out again. No one knew the rules, or they did, but both fighters broke them.... that is NOT vale tudo. Vale tudo has few rules, but it's still in a controlled environment with referees, doctors and such. The kimbo vs gannon fight was just stupid.

  8. Ok, since I sounded like a jerk in that last post: Heelhooks can damage stuff in the knee that I don't know about, but I once got decently bad ankle damage from a heel hook. It was to what looks to be labelled the "peroneus longus" in this picture: http://www.orthogastonia.com/patient_ed/images/ankle/ankle_osteoarthritis/ankle_osteoarthritis_anatomy03.jpg because even when it didn't hurt to stand up on, I'd rotate to the outside on that side my ankle would give out and I'd fall over. I found this out in my university's chemistry lab. Glass, chemicals, you name it, it wasn't pretty. The calf crush that I know doesn't target a joint or a tendon or anything, it just squeezes the calf really hard. I only do it in counter to an achilles lock, because it seems like a * pro-wrestler move that just causes pain. I don't know what would happen if I did it really hard. Deep muscle bruises?

  10. Good luck. Try watching some of the earlier UFC's. They were bare knuckle and for a while had almost no rules. Then it became the "lovely" organization it is today.
  11. Definately give some type of grappling a try. Something like bjj would be practical, and minimize excessive mat impact. Plus good eyesight is just about the last thing you need.
  12. All martial arts have qualities, but they're different qualities. People that argue over martial arts are almost always doing so in terms of fighting effectiveness. You never see people arguing that their art is the be all end all of helping elderly people relax. Using ONLY fighting effectiveness when rating martial arts, there's no way you can say they're all equal, or even close to equal. If you say "Every person values different aspects of martial arts, and can take something different but equal away from it." -- That's fine, that may be true, but you've missed the point. That's not why people were arguing in the first place.
  13. C'mon. You've been around here long enough, you should've expected that by now. I bet it has something to do with all the bowing. (<-----doesn't bow)
  14. Find something else then. If I don't have to concentrate on not collapsing while walking home after practice, I know I didn't go hard enough.
