What I haven't read from anyone who is is a proponent of weapons training is how you have a lesser chance in knowing how to defend against an armed attacker if you have very little experience with weapons in the first place.
There are different styles of Silat, but in general, it relies on a strong, balanced stance that disrupts the attackers base or foundation. Strikes are usually fast and furious. Joint locks and pressure point hits are common.
It is very similar. I think the "o" was replaced by the "w" for dialect reasons. We might emphasize more weapons training due to the influence of Kali.
That's just a generic quotation. Not taken from Band of Brothers, although I think I remember hearing it in one of the episodes. Enjoy the class. You might find that you'll want more after the semester ends.
I don't think you'd find much Arnis or Kali within the internal art section anyway. They don't try to find "ki" as much as the other arts do. And there aren't many Filipino practioners on this board because it simply isn't as popular as the other arts, which is fine with me. I don't need to be popular to be effective.
