  1. Thanks a lot for that reply. I have been thinkin about trying a differen't style and just learn two differen't styles, but I am planning to open my own school so I am not sure. Thanks for your help.
  2. Just different martial arts in general, sorry i wasn't really specific about it.
  3. Hi Everyone! I havne't said much lately so I wanted to know what yall thought about the differen't styles. I understand there are a lot of differen't types of martial arts, do you think that there should be or do you have a problem with it? I mean I believe that most of them are really intresting. I understand that some are organizations wise, such as the WTF and the ITA. Such as in the WTF I believe you have the open tournaments and such things like that. Such as in the ITA (which this is the organization I am in) We have closed tournaments, and our judges have to pass a test and be a certain rank and age to judge. Like we are yall black belts and above the age of 15. I was just wondering on what all is out there and how yall all felt about it. I know this isn't a really good topic but I am wondering about it.
  4. Hey everyone! Thanks for all that good post! It really has helped out a lot. TKDLadyInSC Hey there! I did take that seminar at black belt camp. I was going to ask you if you remember the book that he asked us to read, thanks!!
  5. Hey everyone! I know that this is a touchy subject but I was wondering how everyone else handled it. We have a couple disabled people in our organization. Like we have a deaf person at my school, and if we don't know how to do a sign we write it down. And if it takes to long to spell it out we just write it down for him to read it. Then we have one boy on cruches. He does his form and then he spars, and everyone looks at him as being just like us. I know this isn't really a disability, but we have ADHD children there too. If yall have those kind of people how do you keep them centered on you and nothing else? But I was really looking to see how everyone deals w/ these issues if you have them or if you don't have them but that is the way you would handle it. Thanks! Sarah 3rd Probationary Black Belt Taekwondo Plus Trainee
  6. Our classes last 55 minutes to and hour it depends. The Jr. and Super jr. Classes run 45 minutes long for some reason and I take at least 3 to 4 times a week but I have 5 times a week I can take! I also go for a private lesson, where that is only you and your instructor and you work on your form or sparring. And our classes you work the whole time you don't sit around and chit chat with the other people. You go in the school and then you get dressed (if your not) then you do your form a couple of times then warm up by yourself, then we are ready to begin class by then.
  7. Thanks! I wanted to say that it does help me because some people do think that since you are black belt that you can teach. Which we do not think that. Some don't believe in a certificate and spending money. But thanks that does help me!!
  8. I have a question for everyone to answer. How do you and your other instructors stay certified? Like do you have to pay a fee or test ever so often or what? And do yall have a thing you have to become before you are a head instructor? Because we have something called a Trainee, that is where you can't not teach a class unless a certified is out on the floor or they have given you persmission. If yall could answer that it would be awesome!! Thanks! Sarah 3rd Prob. Black Belt Trainee Instructor
  9. Hey everyone! I was wondering who all does training camps? I mean like do yall have a camp where only black belts can go? Because we have one of those in June and then we compete together. Then in the Winter time you get to go if you are a Green or above. And do yall get recognized in what yall do? Like we have schools all around the US and even in England. I know that we are nationally recognized. If yall could answer that, it would be great! Thanks!!
  10. it took me about 2 years and 4 months but we have a thing called no-changes and if you get that you stay at that rank till your next testing. And if you are a red belt and above you have to break wood and then if you don't break you get a no change and you work harder. Then when you are actually a Black belt you have to know the other forms below your rank and your one-step sparring stuff. But I am now a 3rd Degree which I am one of the Highest ranking females in my school along with 2 other ladies. But it takes you how ever long you make it. And you keep working and working until you get there. But with no no changes then you get it in 2 years!
  11. My instructor told us that it is done by the way that the Sword is drawn before battle. I do Believe that. But the other day after class I believe your were there but he said that my form is the first form to start on the the right side or at least up to my rank that is. And the replys on this question are awesome and I saw many different peoples replys that really made me think!
  12. I am a student at Tae kwon do Plus in Columbia, SC, and I was wondering how yall all have to get your new ranks and all I mean bc what we have to do is that if you are a white belt or yellow belt you do your Pattern and then your one- steps. Green belt you do your pattern and spar If you are a blue belt and Sr. Blue you do your pattern and then you do target drills and spar, then Purple and sr. Purple you have to do your form and then Three-steps and then spar. Red belt and Sr. red you do your pattern an alternative past form and spar and break wood. And at black belt you do your pattern and then spar and break wood and do an alternative form. But what all do you have to do to get your new ranks? Another question I have is how do your instructors become certified in what they are doing? And do they have to go through a certification seminar to get updated and renewed to stay certified are what do yall have to do? I really would like to know those things!! Thanks!
  13. To answer your question about the working on the Stretching hard and doin all those drills we don't do those drills but we do stretch really hard about every week once a week bc you should do that for your legs can kick higher the next time and then smoother and faster . But when we do that we sometimes wake up the next morning and you don't want to get out of bed bc you are so sore but we get up and stretch out our legs or whatever is really hurting which you should do every morning. But that is what we all do at our school.
