Orange Belt

Orange Belt (3/10)

  1. They were ment as blanket statements, taht is why it says ' as many claim " not directed at you. However I feel that one reason for the way Dillman is viewed comes from how this information is provided before the student has the skill to use it. Seminars selling information that was taught to higher ranked students often starting at Shodan or higher. Now there are Kids, white belts and even untrained seminar attendees that are told that the few techniques they are shown will work when a REAL confrontation happens ....... 99% of them will be hurt bad. The alignment of breath, stance, correct movement and body alignment is so important that unless the years of training are in place these techniques will fail. IMHO
  2. No that was Sieyu Oyata and his students like Jim logue and Al Giraldi. Kyusho and Tuite are NOT Dillman creations as many claim.
  3. Two Points 1. Most Karate styles use Pressure Points , But reserve the teachings for nidan and above. It is the why behind the most effective techniques, often styles geared towards tournaments will not focus on this since point accunmulation is the goal NOT SEVERE DAMAGE. 2. Dillman is not the most accurate source for this information too much focus on " palor tricks " like Light touch KO and No touch KO. Oyata/Odo based Ryukyu Kempo will give you much better applications for this information. IMHO.
  4. Sounds like you found out that JAPAN has as many Crap instructors as the rest of the world. Being from Japan does not mean it is the best available training.
  5. Remeber some moves in the Kata are not showing what you are doing but rather what you are making the other do.
  6. KATA in Okinawa was how they rememdered techniques and taught them prior to the written word. Many styles only taught one or two katas, it was not until the 1930's did the performing of many katas in a single style start.
  7. What I have seen is much as others. As an example I will refer to the MMA instructor near my house. As most he is in his early mid twenties and states that he as taken some Karate, Juijitsu mostly from a guy who trained under a BJJ blue belt and that is like 3rd dan in ANY TMA. TKD, Boxing and from this vast background he has taken the very best they offer to create this MMA program. My issue is he never went beyond basics in anything so he never has seen the very best they offer. This is only an example and does not cover all MMA schools but it is a rising trend.
  8. Ryukyu kempo here , Oyata ;inage not the Dillman so called Kempo
  9. From your statement I think you need better instruction. We sparring 2, 3 , 4 on 1 all the time. If only one explaination for any move in the KATA is being taught then there is much missing from your training. I agree that the KATA bashing comes from the mindset that the KATA is a grouping of moves that must be kept in oreder and only address ONE type of situation.
  10. Shane makes some good points, ALL kata/forms training should include Bunkai/breakdown and then OYO/drilling the techniques. Kata is often seen a a sequence or a fight rather than a grouping of techniques to pick from. Whenyou are alone the help with footwork, transition, syncing the breathing with the movement, body postion of a techniques , angle of strike. then when you OYO or drill you refine the timing and intent with your partner. this way you do not think about Kata in a fight but rather react with what you have drilled
  11. Pressure Point guru Master George A. Dillman from Ryukyu Kempo. If you want real RYUKYU KEMPO involved then it would be Taikia Oyata
  12. speak to an okinawian stylist from the Nakmura/Odo/Oyata lineage they will be able to show you the worth of breaking down the Kata/Forms. The mindset is along the lines of , a block is a strike is a lock is a throw. Also much of it grapple based using muscle tears and joint destruction..
  13. Yes , also if you take thier balance you have also taken 50% of thier power , sio if theyt do counter it is less effective.
  14. sounds alot like my Kempo and Isshinryu stances
