Judo is very popular in Russia, especially because of the similarity with Sambo. He actually has a book on Judo coming out (not sure exactly when). I also read his sensei said he was good enough in his prime (20s) to be on the Olympic team, had he decided to try out.

My school not only gives credit for Judo--we're the only state to my knowledge that has organized high school competition.
