  1. I'm just posting this to see what you guys think of these arts individually. I would be very glad if you could post some information on what kind of techniques each of these arts are all about, as I am very interested, and may consider taking one of them up. Thanks.
  2. I think I will take your advice and find myself a school.
  3. Yeah, lol, if I called myself a black belt after watching a tape if I was to combat either of my friends or any other higher belt ranking I'd most likely end up on the floor, face down.
  4. Its not that I'm not willing to drive, it is my parents would be hasseled for it, as the class times offered there would interfere in not only their schedule, but mine as well. I don't know how I could get rides up there all the time without really screwing something up. I don't know what else to do at this point in time.
  5. I am in a situation where there is no schools to train in where I live, the closest one a few towns away, which is too far for me to attend regularly. I was recently reading an issue of Blackbelt magazine and an interesting article came up. It was talking about the advantages and disadvantages of learning through videos. I know that most traditional martial artists would immeaditily think bad idea. However, they decided to test this theory, and it came out that 3 people who had not MA background could perform techniques taught by video just as well as they could by an instructor. Now my question is, would it be a good idea for me to learn by video? I mean there is the disadvantage of not having a physical being to correct me at home (with exception to a few friends of mine who have lots of experience with MA) but then there is the advantage that I can learn what I want to learn, and not be limited by what is closest. What is your opinions on this?
  6. Ok thanks for the advice, I am glad to know I can still do both. It's also a bonus because my friend is very high in Tae Kwon Do as well, and I have another whom I train and practice with who is also red belt in Tae Kwon Do.
  7. Ok, I'm new here, and to martial arts and have a question regarding training in two styles at once. My question is whether I should train in two styles at once or not. I am not sure whether to train in Tae Kwon Do, or Traditional Karate. One of my friends (who got me into martial arts) is teaching me karate currently. He is good enough to teach, but I was considering to go to a dojo and learn there as well. However, there are no karate dojos close to where I live. There is however Tae Kwon Do. Now my question is, should I train in Tae Kwon Do at a dojo while learning Karate from my friend? Or is this harmful to my training, and just simply pick one?
