Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. Id have to agree. the backfist can be used in a number of ways, and it can be thrown in 2 manners aswell. You can whip a backfist, or use your body&weight. No doubt it is potent! I have to agree that many open hand forms can more effectivly strike soft and vital targets, and whipping hands is great too! but every form applied in reality is puerly situational, and such could be said about almost every form. all are tools.
  2. paolung: thank you, I hope to find a good master! Prodigal Son: actually I do spar with friends frequently, tho only a handfull are experienced and trained. I do learn much from these matches and of course will continue. actually wish I could spar more! but also, my goal is to learn more advanced than now.. Thanks! monkeygirl: thats a great idea!! I do have a web cam that can record video clips, so I will have to try that! will have to consider the size of my office area tho so not to destroy anything lol Thank you! Jeff: Thank you MUCH! I will have to do some closer inspection in the area, even a little farther out. Glad to hear you found a good Sifu! hope I can do the same!! Thanky you!!! stephen lee
  3. lol! great!!! Ill just sit back and enjoy the flattery then! Thanks
  4. loose change eh? nice! use it for throwing? well from experience, I can say a belt in the right hands can be a great weapon! any type of stick or wire. sand/dirt. car antenna geez, theres lots, I guess its what you have in front of you at the time..
  5. treebranch, yes I study ShaoLin LongFist, ChinNa and ChoyLayFut Staff. I think it appears flashy for the same reasons StoneSkin stated above^^ many of the forms appear elegant, and the arial and leg preformances of one such as Jet Li are catching! as for Jacki, Im not exactly shure of the style he practices, but Im shure its WuShu of some style. Most likely a Southern style. and even more likely, he practices various styles.
  6. true! I too believe it is a matter of opinion. but also that a movie, and the MA portrayd in a movie, should not represent the validity of it in a defense situatoin. WuShu has always been"flashy" I think the arial forms make to alot of that too. but yeah, Segal movies do rock!!!
  7. hehe, how much do you know much about WuShu??!lol! what does it say? well umm, lets see. I think that about every popular form of fighting has been used in movie making... so what does that say about them????
  8. I think you are referring to a rope dart!! I have no knowledge on this weapon other than it is a large heavy dart, on a rope!lol! looked into it once, but honestly with flexable weapons, you should first be well trained in form, as these weapons RELY almost entirly on the correctness and efficency of your form.
  9. Hi! I practice Choy Lay Fut single/double end whirling staff. If you can find instruction in Single end Choy Lay Fut, a 7+foot staff is used.
  10. it is true what they are telling you, you should first master a Kata before trying to add or change anything. however!! perhaps you could incorperate some kicks into the forms. this will promote versatillity, and will teach your mind to not focus ONLY on the staff. while preforming these kicks, make shure you can begin your kata from exactly where you left off when you kick is complete.
  11. thank you all for the kind welcome! I am enjoying these forums verry much! and I plan on being a long time guest! Thank you, Stephen.
  12. I just witnessed a lot of self proclaimed "experienced" practitioners, practice pure IGNORANCE!!!! obviously you some where along the way develloped a FALSE sence of accomlishment! mabey the color of your belt??? How many of you with such "experience" and strong knowing opinions have trained at the temple?????? NONE!!!!!! perhaps the question isnt where the best instruction IS, mabey where the heart of the student seeking instruction will be more fullfilled for HIM, by training at ShaoLin?!?! afterall, what can an instructor teach to a student whos heart is not in training? if this person will feel more in tune, focused, and confident in China, at a temple... then he WILL learn more there... Of course there are great Masters in the US, and myself personally would be honord to be instructed by them! Dr. Yang Jwing Ming, Kwon Wing Lam, to name a few. True Masters, here in the US. My goal is to meet them first, then off to China. who here would Pass an opportunity to visit the Temle???? and for those of you who claim to KNOW a wide variety of arts, this meaning you know what youre talking about!lol! Perhaps you know Less, about More..... think about it.... any wise man would not discourage someones determination to seek learning, unless they were afraid the seeker would learn more than them.... but then, that would not be a wise man...eh?
  13. perhaps a demonstration. but none the less. ask that wrestler his opinion on the demonstration, and ill bet was impressed! A real wrestler "wouldnt play with his hands" mabey not, but do you think WingCung cant use legs as efficiently? a rising knee can contact the face of a low charging opponent much faster than 2 hands can controll a fast rising knee...... just 1 ie. MHO.
  14. I have made one for my self. I made it out of PVC tubing. I could not tell you the proper way to make one tho. I made this with one arm at shoulder level in the center. I use it for verry basic blocks and wraps. the arm will twist and even pull out with some force. sorry I cant help you more.. but when you make one, you will enjoy your time on it!
  15. Ive had limited instruction some time ago. However, a good friend is a Navy SEAL, he instructed the hand combat classes in the Navy for a year, we study together on occasion.. If there were ANY schools near me I would allready be taking classes. I live in a rural part of the state. There was a TKD school here a year ago, but has since closed, and the instructor moved.. I know the drawbacks of learning from a book... But right now its all I have.. I am greatfull for atleast that.. But hoping to acquire more. Thank you.
