  1. im already study both hapido and tkd here at uni. the hapkido class is fairly new and the instructor (Master Kim Beom, 7thdan hapkido, 5th dan tkd) told everyone when we started kicking that we would learn to kick the hapkido way because it was a hapkido class, he didnt care if we were tkd or kung fu or karate. it is pretty dodgy for someone to tell you you have to learn another different martial art before he will teach you his. hapkido does rock tho, you should definately take it up
  2. in my tkd class, we generally focus on techniques and its quite similar to my old shotokan karate class, we also do semi contact sparring, sometimes with competition rules and sometimes just free sparring (much more fun) it is a wtf class but here isnt much pressure put on people to train for competitions. my main question is which style does the palgue patterns and which one does the taeguk patterns? ive heard differently from different people and now im just confused we do the taeguk ones at my class (sam jang il jang etc) (i havent been doing tkd for very long so if this is a really dumb question then please forgive me )
  3. Hey, ive been thinking of going to china to train for a while and have mainly heard reasons not to go. i have however recently met someone who has good contacts in china. i think this would be a better way of going about it than looking around on the net or in magazines for schools because they may be biased and after money etc. Also the reason for going is very important, i will soon finish my degree at uni and want to travel to the far east anyway. rather than just travelling, i would like to train for a long period as i would not really be able to get another opportunity to leave a career and train all day everyday later in life. (or it would be very awkward to) i am still not sure if i will be able to do this and its not something that can be thought of lightly. you need to spend a lot of time asking yourself if it would really be that benificial and would you be committed to that level of intense training? also if english is not spoken then you'd better start learning mandarin before you go oo there is this site too, https://www.shaolins.com it says its the northern temple martial arts academy. it seems to be geared to traditional kung fu and is cheaper per week that my total living costs here at uni. (in the uk btw) the accommodation doesnt look great but if you are really dedicated then that should not really matter to you. i hope this helped somebody
