  1. Christ, $100 a month, that seems like a lot. I pay £35 a month (about $50) for Kuk Sool classes and only £12 for Jujuitsu a month. I guess MA must be more popular over in America than the UK, or something lol!
  2. oooh! nasty! I remember when Brown belts had to do that for their testing. I think they had to do the 8 basic kicks on each leg 10 times, then the same again x 2, then same again x 3 + 20 Spin kicks n 20 sweep kicks. Then they had to go onto doing all their forms and techniques. I don't think i'd be able to do that without pulling a muscle, or falling unconscious haha!
  3. Whoa! I'm not sure which Hapkido dojang you whatched, that didn't give a good workout. However, every one I've seen, including my own KSW dojangs, give a thorough workout. If you sit there for 2 hrs, constantly going through techniques, either throwing or being thrown and having to get up, you're going to be drenched in sweat by the end. True, I didn't appreciate the amount of working out you actually do in a Kuk Sool class till recently (been doing it about a year)...in a class your constantly working out, from kick/punch drills, forms (which are a good workout!) and especially techniques, as you said. Also, when someones doing the techniques on you your body gets more conditioned and hardened to the throws and the wrist/arm locks. Although in our class I don't think there's enough throwing or full on locking and finishes when carrying out the techniques (even with the higher grades!).
  4. Coffee! Nah mate we need to get a few beers in at the pub Sounds interesting, n i've been to a few m/board meets which have generally been really good fun, even though a lot of the people there I never even spoke to before. I live about a 2 hour train ride to London (King's Lynn).
  5. hehe! Movie/TV soundtracks rule! I'm quite into the last samurai one at the moment. Rocky 4, Platoon and Pulp fiction are also good! As for Pulp i've got Different Class, which is great (don't really rate the other albums). I don't listen to it often but when I do it reminds me of when I was 15, when it forst came out n they were popular.
  6. Attend classes regularly and practice. You only get really nervous if you know you can't do it (although everyone gets a bit nervous). But I mean to shake off the 'jitters' as you put it get to the dojo early, warm up, do a few forms n some techniques with a partner n then you'll forget your even nervous.
  7. That's why I've started up doing Ju Juitsu as well as Kuk Sool. Kuk Sool concentrates a lot on your wristlock and a few elbow lock techniues (although the other week I learnt this great figure 4 armlock in Kuk Sool) but that was in a special Kuk Sool class where we did knife defence n that was really the only time I ever learnt something like that... Ju Juitsu seems to be a lot more full on with armlocks n breaking arms n joints! Quite an ugly martial art actually! Right up my street
  8. haha! Im not sure what Limp Bizkit, or Knuckledust would think about being on the same list as Gene Pitney and Berlinda Carlisle lol! N I'm talking Manics pre AND post Richie! Nice list by the way, Blur n Pulp are good, n I like early Garbage. So your a bit of a britpopper then
  9. Yeah, same here. Thats one of the downsides + we don't do enough sparring (only 1 lesson a month). We've only really done Sparring thats been alternate (with locks/throws) once, that was fun...started off light, then got pretty heated after a bit...This kid was trying to snap my fingers haha! Nah, all good fun though.
  10. Kuk Sool is pretty much a freestyle martial art. It's a martial art that involves a lot of your kicking, punching, forms, and also throwing, choking, armlocks, wristlocks, joint locks, break falls, acrobatics, meditation, breathing, acupressure, acupuncture, weapons all integrated into a beautiful hard and soft style. Kuk Sool is unique in that it allows the practicioner to restrain an attacker or an opponent without having to break his arm or cause serious injury. There's a lot to Kuk Sool, and there's always something new to learn in lessons n they never get boring. They say its the most complete martial art, as there's so much to it. Thats my take on it anyway
  11. To name a few bands: Black Sabbath, Rancid, metallica, Madness, Bad Manners, Toy Dolls, Atari Teenage Riot, Black Widow, Polyphonic Spree, Suicidal Tendancies, Hatebreed, US Bombs, Roger Miret & The Disasters, The Gadjits, Offspring, The Specials, Oasis, Sloppy Seconds, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Born from pain, Desmond Dekker, The Ethiopians, Oxymoron, The Clash, Atom and his package, Motorhead, limp Bizkit, Gene Pitney, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Roxette, Danzig, Berlinda Carlisle, Lars Fredricksen & the bastards, Agnostic Front, Distillers, Down, Turbonegro, The Kovenant, Misfits, Ramones, Less than Jake, SkaDazzyZ, Superjoint Ritual, Faith No More, All 'Boro King's, Andrew WK, The Darkness, Manic Street Preachers, Alice in chains, Ozzy, The Music, The Housemartins, Beastie Boys, Tiger Army, The Dwarves, The Libertines, Adema, HIM, Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers, Michael Jackson, Laibach, Devo, Kortatu, Toto, Sham 69, Die Toten Hosen, Anti Flag, Knuckledust, The beach boys. Anyone notice any bands they know in that list
  12. I think mine is Eue Bok Soo number 4 (Kuk Sool Won), which is a clothes technique; when someone grabs the top of your arm and you make them submit by twisting their hand whilst they still have contact with your arm...fun!
  13. Not used Karate, but there was this drunk girl at a party I went to last week, who was playing up a bit n grabbed my friends shirt as we were going downstairs, so I just used a mild wristlock on her which made her let go. I was quite pleased with that actually because I can say I finally put my skills to some use But I reckon if a proper fight situation came about I probably wouldn't have the balls n just run off.
  14. Spar at close range, that might help. Particularly if they're good with kicks.
