Orange Belt (3/10)

  1. Hello its been a while since i last came on here my name is gaz (AKA) bagpuss. I am a 1st dan, and taking my 2nd dan in shotokan karate in three weeks time 10/09//05. Im easy to talk to so email any time. I run a shotokan karate club in the uk and like many types of music. Any time you fancy a chat go for it.
  2. Try this site in the link below its a good site for terminology
  3. It will always be a problem that your belt or gi rucks up. I know how it feels, i hate the fact that it does this. However a sensei once told me not to tie it too tight just enough to move about then it won't pull up your gi as you move about. It works for me give it a try.
  4. Listen well, learn well, teach well and respect will come from anyone regardless of age or gender. I was being shown some poor karate which the instructor could not show or perform bunkia too. How can you teach a move or a kata if the instructor has no idea of what's going on in the moves. I lost respect for him as an instructor and his teacher for allowing him to teach in that area which he knew litte about. The teacher should know what he's showing you. ITS THE SAME OLD SAYING EARN YOUR RESPECT.
  5. I have my own school with a children class and adults classes. One thing i have learnt from being a student of karate and now instructor is NOT to give press up's, sit up's etc, or any form of exercise as a punishment. They are part of the fitness which comes with karate training. At my club i as instructor and owner of it, before any student walks onto the dojo training area, i have to make sure no student is wearing any jewelery. I also explain why it should be removed. So maybe you should not have been put in that situation from your owner/instructor. Not wishing to sound so goody goody you are right, In the fact that you asked him to remove it and he still no matter what age or rank did not. That showed dis-respect for you as the class tutor and he should train in the spirit all martial arts student do week in week out.
