  1. hey~~!!! you can actually download all the forms: sil lim tao, chum kil and bil gee from the net.. sorry i cant remember from where exactly. i just typed in https://www.yahoo.com then searched for wing chun forms chum kil i found a really cool site each form is about 4mb each... but i dun think you should train before goin to the wc school, becos you wont know the foundations.
  2. in wing chun we only use linear strikes and elbow strikes, how come we don't use round puches or hooks. they would be a lot more powerful in a street fight. ( they're just more powerful altogether)
  3. ive learnt that in wing chun we use the left/ right/ front neutral stance which means 50-50 weight distribution at all times. this gives us mobility in all directions( not just foward and back like tipical karate stances). being able to move both left and right lets us move to the opponents blind side. particularly with the neutral stance we're only supposed to use in a no contact position, after they attack we change to either a left/right neutral stance or a front stance. the wing chun stance i got to admit there is a lot of open areas, but our guard is designed to cover every attack.
  4. i understand what the bon sao is... but i was just asking do you or would you use it in a fight??? i find that i neva need to use or even think of using it in a fight or for sparring. i understand that it does work, but why is it there if you don't really use it. be honest have you or would you use it in a fight?
  5. sinking, rooting. what do these terms means, becoz it dun sound so good
  6. i think fear is a major factor of any fighter regardless of how good they are. when you're in any situation you always think oh sh*t. are they betta then me?? are they goin to kick my ass?? but when it comes to them starting to throw punches your natural instinct should be to cover you face or to stick your hand out to block it. or juz retreat.
  7. hehe i agree with all the people that suggested wing chun WING CHUN ALL THE WAY!! lolz wing is very good in close quarter combat... if your looking for high kicks and fancy stuff dont even bother attempting it. wing chun consists of low to medium kicks
  8. ah^gao bon sao is pronounced as bong sao. this block uses both hands at the same time. this block is supposed to be used to deflect a punch to the chest your deflecting hand actually blocks the punch then your second hand sweeps the opponents arm away . therefore letting you counter. if you dont understand this concept, you wont be able to help me or give a suggestion. all im saying is that i would never use this block in any situation this block probably does have a 'hidden meaning' but im just saying that the block is too slow, to be used in combat.
  9. ah^gao i've look into your profile it seems that you do shao lin...how come you know so much about wing chun?? have you ever studied it before?... i think your wrong about the palm not being fully open... it is.. only our thumb is tucked in. it may look not fully open, that is due to a sloppy guard or block. your palm sort of curls if it is over relaxed yeah and sorry i did mean fingers. my instructor has taught me correctly... i was just wondering about the open palm thingy.
  10. i didnt read through all the posts but vovinam i guess is uncomon cause i haven't heard anyone tork about in this forum... hehe vovinam is the national martial arts of vietnam it was developed by grandmaster Loc Nguyen to help young men defend themsleves against the french, when they took over Vietnam awhile agoz so yea!! lolz i find it interesting and agressive fly kicks to the head and stuff. and the self defense moves actually work!! unlike some other MA'z
  11. bon sao is translated as the wing arm block... how ever would u ever find yourself using this block in any situation... whether sparring, streetfight??? i dun think so... i reckon itz to slow what do u think??? and if we dont use it what the point of having it???
  12. ah^gao thanks... but wouldnt it be easier to break my hand if it was open??
  13. is there any one from melbourne australia who does wing chun kung or any kung fu
  14. a couple of my close friendz know that im doin MA, they always seem to ask me to show them stuff... i guess one way you can look at it , is that they want to learn of you. since they r my friendz i cant juz say no. sumtymz they come up with question i dunt kno the answer to and they start bagging me for not knowing when im supposed to know. they just want to tell you that they can still get a punch in whether or not you do do MA. They are just testing to see how good you are b/c they're curious and Mertial Arts is an interesting topic, once to start you can stop talking bout it
  15. ive been reading afew posts, but havent seen anything on vovinam (martial arts of vietnam) all i want to know is there anyone that knowz anything about it, or has even heard about it.
  16. ive been study wckf for over a year and a half... recently a friend asked me why we block with an open fist... i thought about it for awhile and couldnt think of why we do... i made up bs saying that your if you extend your palm there will be a greater distance to block and less room for error... (could be ryt...hehe) and in his argument he said wouldnt it be easier to block with a closed fist? cos you can break, or jar your hand with an open fist do you know why?
  17. my sistaz boyfriend introduced me to wing chun... he taught me afew moves wen he used to come over. he lived on the east side of melbourne, so i couldnt train at his place. lucky enough i found a wing chun place 10mins away from my house in the west. only $5 a lesson 2hrz. my mum wouldnt let me but i snuck out newayz. and she still doesnt noe. (itz been a year and a half) later on my fwen introduced me to vovinam (martial arts of vietnam). since i am vietnamese, my mum let me join. so now im studying both!! omg i love MA
  18. in wing chun i like the concept of the 50-50 weight distribution, this allows you to move in every direction easily and kick without steping forward first. unlike the front stance which restricts your side movements. my favourite block in wing chun is the tan sao... i feel as if it lets me move on to my opponents blind side easily, and then countering.
  19. i've heard that palm strikes can be more lethal then a punch, but do you actually use it in a street fight?? which one is better. i find my instinct is to throw a punch what do you think??
  20. all the centre line is, is the imaginary line that runs through the middle/ centre of the body... itz important because normally it is always open for attack. in wing chun we learn to always guard it. it centre line must never be infront of your opponent. always face the side. centre line is the foundation of balance. if the centre line is not open your opponent should not be able to connect.
  21. any tipz for a newbie (sparring)...all i noe is that i crap myself each time i fight a higher rank then me in (vovinam- martial arts of vietnam) i curently study wckf, and just started vovinam (like 4 lessonz )the instructor makes me fight a yellow belt ( 3.5yrs+ experience). i find that i freeze with fear. can neone help.... and dont tell me not to fight him b/c he's more experienced...alot more experience .
  22. ive been doing wing chun kung fu for a while and ive just started vovinam (martial arts of vietnam). ive found that it ish best to keep your guard up at all times, even when throwing a punch, kick or block. with one handed blocks (most of them) you should still keep your free hand guarding you face. remembaer to always protect your face. always move around so that your opponent never gets a clear shot at you, but don't over do it because you'll tire yourself out. if your scared wait for your opponent to make the first move, retreat then when they are unbalanced (after they follow through an miss). you should counter straight away.
  23. hey!! is there a point to ur topic or are you just informing us whatz goot and whats crap??? next ryt a beta topic... maybe i can actually help you.. well cya
  24. hi! ive been studying wckf for about a year and a half. ive been to and watched afew tournamentz. and seriously i think wc is really crappy for sparring. wing chun vs. wing chun- all we do is throw alot of straight punches at each other. i think itz light contact and none to the head. whilst vs. wing chun i tend to use tan sao block to get on the opponents blind side. i find that it is very effective. but ive found that vs. a kick boxer, i crap myself and retreat alot. i tend juz so try to get in as close as i can so he cant kick.
