Brazilian Jujutsu
metamorph replied to King of Fighters's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
BJJ does include strikes just in a limited amount, if your taking it for strikes your in the wrong art but if you want something to round out your game so you dont get your ass beat all the time go for it. most of the strikes in BJJ are to setup for a position to apply a sub. Strikes altho a small part of BJJ are not allowed in comp because that is not the main focus of BJJ and could get someone injured when such is unnessicary. -
Submission Holds
metamorph replied to Ghost02's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
If it is pure luck why can I and every other instructor I have seen reverse browns and sometimes black belts with ease, if you train reversals it's not luck it is skill. If you need a site to learn subs go to http://www.subfighter.com/ it has good vids and the site is made by a friend of mine plus it gets updated with new techniques alot -
Jiu Jitsu and Judo
metamorph replied to superfighter's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
In comps they always start standing or atleast that is all I have ever seen. I myself would take BJJ and then take judo as a complenment to takedowns. -
man go to sherdog.com or Renzos school talk to him about this its not an MMA if it doesnt mix more then 1 style juz cuz a style has ground and striking and was 2 diff arts years ago dont I get what u r saying but it has became 1 are so by learning that 1 art you are not learning MMA as a training technique

Nobody is the perfect teacher, Renzo is pretty darn good though. Just because someone knows there art that does not make them a good teacher. -
you add another MA and most styles made with A and B seem to miss certin elements of both A and B depends on what you call modern http://www.judoinfo.com/jhist.htm is a good article for this I was simply asking why the 1 person said it was better to train a TMA then more then 1 art I didnt say a TMA cant be a MMA because that TMA is 1 style weather it has ground and standup or just 1 it is still 1 style

Ok no I did not realize you ment knife vs knife because I don't carry a knife 24/7 and the 1 I do carry is a flding Buck knife so it wouldnt be useful in a fight because I could not unfold it fast enough. When I was talking about training for combat I ment hend to hand so dont bring fencing into this. WC-Strayder MMA is not even mainstream outside of Japan so no it hasn't started to rub off. I never said traditional MA's are useless but most traditional MA's are not taught as they were in there traditional sense (example judo). I am not saying if it isn't in MMA compatition it is useless but if it is great why isn't it used in compatition (hand to hand arts)?. If you remember back in UFC 1-5 we did see alot of MA's get there butt kicked though and then there was Joe Son but thats a whole other issue. The only point I am trying to make is that 1 MA is less then the greater sums of all MA's. Even the MA's with standup and grappling were created by mixing MA's togather. As for saying MMA compatition is not the closeest thing to real fighting you can get (hand to hand) you are wrong because anything more would be against the law. Why is a TMA a better option when you can train a TMA with a newer style and know both?

1st of all I would like to say if you get into a knife fight in a dark ally chances are you will get hurt or killed even with training. Most MMA fighters train there arts to get better at them themselves not spacificly for MMA its more spacificly for combat because street or MMA you are still in combat either way. You can not train for all variables in a fight but MMA is the closest compatition to a real situation fist fight. In most fist fights I do not see what I expect to see in MMA because few ppl take it to the ground. Oh and 1 last thing MMA style training means training many arts to make your technique rounded, it will work better for you in a fight in a real situation because you know how to handle being on the ground and on your feet.

How to recognize a McDojo?
metamorph replied to Anzie's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I have made Renzo tap but I am not better then him. I am just saying that starting a Dojo without training is not the best thing to do. If you want to be a instructor for your friends or whatever that is cool but to make it a biusiness you should be ranked because without formal training it makes injury a more likeky thing. You also need insurance for a dojo and its hard to get if your service is something you have not been trained in. -
the UFC games are too easy but PrideFC is better then the UFC games

Yes but they should atleast be ranked as a belt or else it ends up making lagit ppl (such as myself) look bad. I don't like when ppl open dojos without formal training. What makes them better then there students? -

If you want to start a school in a spacific art you should go to a certified instructor to get ranked (in BJJ it is a gracie or a machado) -
how is that bias, its only logical take the best ground arts and mix them with the best striking. just because a art has combined both striking and grappling doesnt mean it combined the best parts of each and if it did why isnt it used in todays MMA compatitions like Pride?. For combat yes because you learn a good standup with good ground game go ask bas rutten on sherdog.net. to Crosstrain means train more then 1 style by the way
