  1. The question was "What do you think are THE kihon katas of ALL of karate?" Popularity and variations aside, I feel the Taikyoku series are very much kihon based. In fact, they ARE kihon. Karate is repetition. Repetition of it's most basic techniques hone your skills, and the Taikyoku series can be a valuable asset in that regard in my opinion. To state that because we have the Heians, the Taikyokus are superfluous, is the same as saying we do not need Heian Yondan because we have Kanku Dai, or Heian Nidan because we have Bassai Dai. In my present dojo they are eachothers cousins, and all help you to become a better karateka. So, in regards to kihon kata's, I stand by my answer.
  2. As a Shotokan nut, I'd say Ten No Kata, the Taikyoku series, and Heian Shodan. From Heian Nidan onward the techniques are a bit beyond basic kihon imo.
  3. No that's just the problem. They would be much easier to find if I knew the names of the sensei and governing body. I'm 100% sure it's shotokan though.
  4. What a welcome, seldom seen on internet these days. Thank you all!
  5. No, both parts of the video were some 30 minutes in length each. The sensei was Japanese, and I'm pretty sure the location was in Japan also. Thank you for looking for it though, I appreciate it!
  6. Thank you for that! Dropped a couple of lines in the introduction section.
  7. Hi everybody! Just wanted to briefly introduce myself. Lifetime student of Shotokan, although with some hiatuses. Always been a fan of competitions, you know, trying to get the old prize cabinet stuffed Currently training in a small, non-commercial dojo, and that's just the way I like it. Looking forward to testing for my 2nd kyu at the end of this year.
  8. Konichiwa! I'm looking for a video on a karate camp. I spent a lot of time looking for it, it used to be on YouTube but because I can't remember the governing body that it's from, nor the name of the sensei, I can't find it anymore. Instead I will give a description of the video, maybe somebody remembers what it is, and where to find it. The video is in two parts. In the first part, we see a warming up of students running across a court yard doing different excersises while running. There is a moment of instruction by the sensei. Then the video moves to inside the dojo, where karate theory is given on a group of students using a whiteboard. I specifically remember the lesson given was about the use of your gluteus maximus when executing a mawashi geri. The second oart shows a lesson given by the sensei in the dojo (I faintly remember it being the hombu dojo) Can't remember very much about the lesson that was given (other then it being an excelent one!), but I do remember the video featured an American karate student that was visiting there. I don't remember much else about the videos, other then the intro being the sensei practicing karate in the surf of the sea. It's not a new video production, I'd say at least 5 years old, or even older. I'd greatly appreciate a pointer on where I can find this resource!
