  1. Well said Lions Den
  2. Ok Aurik, If that is the case you passed! Omedeto
  3. Hello Aurik, glad to her your Sensei is praising your Sanchin and he said you already passed in his opinion. By the way when I was going for my San Dan Belt test..........I asked the sub sensei......a few questions as I was a bit nervous and we would be going to Tokyo Buddokan where there would be about 500 people within the organization there. I said do you think i can pass? especially since I was doing a Kobudo demonstration. He said to me, something, I always remember..........He said you have already passed as your Sensei wouldnt have invited you to display your techniques to the organization unless he truly thought you deserve to be promoted to the next level Maybe some other members can jump in on this note: Is it said to be true if your main sensei invites you to display your Kata and other skills in front of the Panel....... I got my third Black Belt but was always so nervous, so with what I was told....surely I can relax mo,re from now and it makes me strive to be even better! I think You will pass Aurik best of luck, T
  4. Hey,Himokiri Spot on! It all dervived from KUNG FU!
  5. Crane.......... My exact Sentiments
  6. Let it be what you want it to be! Reality is in the eyes of the beholder! We all know it was definitley of chinese origin brought to the ryukakku islands now Okinawa and then spread into mainland Japan. eventually spreading all over the World. Karate of today has so many different sectors because of each individual student rebranding it. However depending on the Sensei they teach the original roots. Ive noticed many MC Dojos in America especially with too many logos and not really doinng all of the breathing techniques which truly make Karate powerful. Or some kids classes where the Sensei isnt really good at Karate and just teaches the kids basics and mostly excecize to make their parents happy. I love Cobra Kai but it is a clear example of the good side and the bad side of it all! Elvos Presley claims to be a Master of karate and was clearly a Joke. He used his fame and paid for his supposed achievements. Watch the Joe Rogan podcasts on elvis or just go to youtube and type in Elvis and Karate. Most of the time he is drunk and bloated and doing his supposed Kata on Stage. A real disgrace to true karate. Train hard and learn the correct stances, breathing and anatomy of where to strike and then it is an effective Martial Art...... and just because you get a Black Belt it is only the beginning of your Journey on the path. Be humble and seek knowledge, most importanlty never give up! The Kobudo side of Okinawaan Martial Arts is really where my interest is focused on these days espcially the Jo and the Bo.
  7. May the force be with you
  8. Welcome back BradLee I like your story! You had hip replacement but are still eager! That's a Champion!
  9. Welcome Rayman! I love Krav Maga and it is a great Martial art. My israeli friend lives and practices it in Tel Aviv!
  10. Welcome Feral Frettchen! Glad ot hear you are taking up Karate again! 38 is very young! Never give up, You can do it!
  11. Welcome Lions Den Keep us updated on the Dojo too!
  12. Lions Den, How true your statements are! not only did my body become way more fit and I became more confident. I had a purpose and a goal. I began to notice my friends didnt have a true passion and now I always use my time wisely and am a more positive person. I stopped watching so much Tv and sending meaningless emails and have more quest for knowledge. I can't imagine what would have happened to my mental during this pandemic as well!
  13. Hi Aurik, Yes, My Sensei told me in our style of Seisan we put emphasis on pausing and breathing and putting the energy in our punches and kicks. I love Seisan practice as its meant to be 13 Hands,fists,techniques,13 steps or 13 killing positions. I attend karate classes about twice a week and always choose the Seisan and Bassai Aka Passai, the are my favs!
  14. I could never Imagine quitting Karate as it is excellent excercize not to mention learn to control your breathing. You can always train solo and just do Kata but once you have put so many years into anything..........You should still practice or its meaningless to have ever begun. I also do Kobudo which is fascinating and will help you when you are older carrying a cane etc. Rotflmao
  15. It's never to late learn anything. You just have to keep an open mind. Who cares if you are unable to do it at first. Everything begins by making the first step and the fear of not being compared to others regardless of Age or technique. Just Never Give Up!
  16. Stye or Style?? PMSL
  17. Karate is alive and kicking!
  18. It's defintiley a loaded question as Karate was influenced by China and came to Okinawa which was ryukaku islands and then made its way into Mainland Japan as a Sports subject in the schools and then spread all over the world. I wrote and article about this very subject on Budojapan.com or you can also find it at world of Martial arts TV too.
  19. Sorry to heart That! R.I.P> Nicholas Perez Sensei
  20. Karate is definitely making a comeback as many Martial arts come from Japan and Cobra Kai is popular on TV.....even though they are actors and not very skilled in Karate. People are getting interested in more Traditional philosphy along with Weapon Training. Lets face it not only Karate but, Also Aikido, Jujitsu,Kendo,Aiedo Sumo,Kobudo, karate etc. came from Japan while either being influenced by China or The gracies enhancing the techniques of Brazilian Ju jitsu. Karate is definitely making a comeback
  21. Thank you both for your invfomative information. The flyers is a great idea especially in upscale neighborhoods where you could get more for private lessons. It might be a better approach as I would be interested in people who are truly interested in practicing Karate rather than teaching younger children perhaps in the beginning. I do know there is a dojo in Oceanside California with a talented Sensei Armando of Champion Eyes dojo and there are a few Shorin ryu and Kobudo based Dojos in San Diegp. Alohas, Tim'
  22. Hello Everyone, I will finally be moving back to San Diego California form this fall mostly becuase the parents are in ill health and the last 3 years under the covid lockdown has basically destroyed my familys financial existence. I will buy a pool route to generate some income but am interested in knowing if it's feasible to find a DoJo that might need some Karate instructors or any good ways to advertise to teach privatye lessons for beginners? I feel like I have been away from the States so long...... (pmsl!!) when I lived there last the Yellow pages was the main means of adversting! any suggestions would be appreciated! cheers, Tim
  23. Hi there wamp Im also living in Narita japan and practicing shorin ryu along with kobudo. you have a link to your style of karate-combat and is it for military drills? cheers, Tyler
  24. Hi there Ashworth,Zaine, Wastelander, Sensei8, Bushido_Man, Scohen0300 and Patrick. I'm hapy to have found this forum on Martial arts and look forward to seeing more posts and insights on martial arts. Alohas, Tyler
  25. Hello, Thank you Zaine,Wastelander,Nidan Melbourne,Scohen0300 for the responses. I was looking for some Shorin ryu training videos just to see a perspective from a different Sensei as i think we all should sometimes even trian in other Dojos to be more well rounded. In Japan the shipping is so expensive so thought a used DVD series set would be best.
